recently purchased 1995 5 speed 39,000 miles
check engine light before I bought car.
Owner took car to dealer the day before I arrived to buy car. (750 miles away) had dealer diagnose CEL for 95.00 which owner paid
CODE 12 EGR VALVE LIFE INCORRECT PERFORMED EGR SYSTEM TEST
VACUUM TEST SHOW NO EGR VACUUM TO EGR VALVE
EGR CONTrOL VALVE CLOGGING FOUND
RECOMMEND EGR CONTROL VALVE SOLENOID replacement.
I WAS SATISFIED IT WAS NOT TERMINAL OR IMMEDIATE DANGER, AND WE LOWERED PURCHASE PRICE 500.00.
CAR RUNS REAL NICE, though Idles a little rough
Well.. now I have it home, getting ready for storage and then in spring or over winter...having some serious maintenance done .
TB/WP last done april 2007, 22000 miles ago... so I guess I should have that done.??? your thoughts welcome

Is the egr valve issue strickly an emmisions thing, or does it affect how the car actually runs? (I think it idle roughs for a Honda!!!).
can I clean something? can I replace the solenoid myself? Is addressing this issue worth the time, effort, money.
I love this car.. and before the "new" wears off... I'd really like to make it as "right" as reasonable without getting downright wasteful.
What is the quick "reset" for the CEL... a fuse, or disconnect the battery? owner said it would often go weeks between CEL lighting up.
