I know there's a few home audio buffs in here that can help me out. I'm looking for some good bass extension and I think a subwoofer will really help me out. I'm currently using JBL S38s (Studio series 3-way bookshelf with 8" woofer) as my mains (they're awesome for the price I paid- $300/pair). My budget is <$600. My biggest problem is that the room is very large- about 8000 cubic feet (about 40x20x10, carpeted floor, hard walls). I get good sound from the JBLs, but I'd like a little more bass. The setup is only for parties/music- no home theater, but it'd be nice if the sub works there too, if I decide to change things around in a smaller room. Do any of you have any suggestions? I'm currently looking at the Infinity PS12 (12", 300 watt RMS).

I have the same speakers (S38's, including the voice matched center channel). I love 'em, really well built, high quality and very accurate sound. I have an Infinity brand amplified sub attached to my reciever as well and the overall sound is great.

Hope that helps,

I've also been looking at the SVS PB-10 (I think that's the model)- 10" sub, 300 watt amp, $429+ shipping. I'm checking daily to see if there's a b-stock one that I can get for cheaper. I've read an extensive review on the comparison between the Infinity and SVS, and the Infinity faired well, except for the 25 Hz and below. I was looking if there's any other options out there that I haven't heard of yet. I've checked Axiom, Ascend, Hsu, and Velodyne, but the previous two are liked better.
