Honda Sports Concept Debuts at Melbourne

3 March, 2005

Honda will unveil a sleek, high-tech sports concept at the 2005 Melbourne International Motor Show.
The Honda Sports Concept (HSC) draws on decades of Honda’s engineering heritage to deliver the ultimate driving experience in an easy to drive package.

The two-seater coupe features a mid-mounted DOHC i-VTEC V6 engine delivering in excess of 300 horsepower.

A motorized sequential shift transmission with paddle-mounted or dash-mounted gear shifters gives the driver the instant control required of a true sports car without losing ease of operation. Stopping power is provided by six-piston Brembo disc brakes.

The four-wheel double-wishbone suspension combines with low-profile rubber on 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels to provide superb handling and response.

Nubuck leather coupled with carbon and aluminium interior materials blend to create the interior comfort and functionality expected from a Honda sports car.

The high-tech instrument panel speeds up driver decision-making by clustering gauges together on the dash, reducing the need to adjust focal distance between the display and the world outside.

A CCD rear-view camera provides the driver with a view of vehicles or objects behind the car.

Wow. That is bizzare. I guess nobody really knows what they are thinking.

I think the HSC should be made and at $55-65K.

How the heck do you open the hatch?!

I know I read the info before, but was it this specific befoer. That part about a DOHC i-VTEC engine (I thought they used to just say V6), and also about the 19/20" rims. Anyway, since the RL uses a SOHC VTEC and makes 300HP, I would guess the DOCH i-VTEC makes at least 50HP more.

Anyway, now that I've seen many pictures of the Lexus LF-A that Lexus is calling a GT Sports car, I really like the HSC again. It just look much more exotic.

I find it fun to see what parts this car shares with. Does anyone think the HID lights are from the 05 RL?

"Honda’s sports car heritage will be on display with one of its first ever models the S600, lining up alongside the sleek HSC sports concept car."

It's just a gallery of sorts. I suspect there's no more meaning to the HSC's presence than the S600's.

I don't think the HSC has been shown in the US in a long time. Not sure it ever will be again.

They brought the HSC to Melbourne because they didn't bother with Sydney's auto show last year... ;)

As soon as us Melbourne Boyz go to the auto-show, we'll post lots of pictures for all you USA boyz... and the Sydney guyz. :D :D :D

There is no hatch. That is the rear glass and it does not cover the engine. The engine sits just aft of the glass making the glass look akwardly short. If they would have stretched the glass along with the B pillar to the back of the car I think they would have had a much better response to the overall design.

Anymore, I really wonder what honda was thinking when they debuted the HSC. Honda doesn't have a lot of R&D dollars to throw at make believe projects and they rarely show their vehicles prior to true production release dates. However, they do drop a concept on us now and again. Just by the fact they showed the HSC to the general public makes me feel that it was never truely intended to see production anyhow. And if a new "NSX" were to be released, I doubt we would know anything until the day it happened.

I actually saw one on my way to work this morning. It was pretty sweet!

I was speaking to Jenson Button on the weekend and he knows nothing about the HSC either. Except he did state that he "has the old version of that one" pointing at the HSC. He also stated that he loves his NSX and noted that Ayron Senna helped design it! I asked him if he would teach me to drive my Twin Turbo... He just laughed...

Takuma Sato on the other hand has no interest in Honda's... When I talked to him he said "I don't know, I drive a Mini Cooper S"

I agree.

Honda aren't giving anything away either... I asked for a plastic bag to put some of my stuff in at the Honda stand and they wouldn't even give me that!
