I would re-qualify Brian's statement for my own perspective as
- it was very good when initially designed for the car's introduction 16 years ago.
It's extremely dated by todays standards however as is still the exact same specification as when the car was first introduced.
The Head Unit is a dinosaur and frankly looks like a 20 year old piece of hardware - still has a Cassette player,
even in the '05's and no in-dash CD (although you can have a 6 disc changer in the trunk - OK, the spec has changed on the changer over the years in that the latest now has mp3 capability albeit with limited display capability for library menu on the head which clearly wasn't designed with such subtleties not yet invented!). There are no separate components for mid & tweeter & no subwoofer. Just 4 tiny 4" speakers. But they do sound reasonable for what they are.
I would say that "most" leave it stock, the biggest obstacle being in changing out the HU due to having to reconfigure & paint the console which many are reluctant to undertake.
However, take a stroll through the
NSX Stereo, Multimedia, Security & Electronics Gadgets Forum and you'll find some original custom systems that it's fair to say are quite "killer".
