I have a defective alternator mounting bracket that NEEDS to be removed. This is the large cast iron piece that also serves as a motor mounting point.

I've removed the bolts that are visible after removing the alternator but the iron casting goes down toward the block and I can't see how it's connected.

Can this alternator bracket be removed without lowering the the motor?

Larry, THANK YOU for the info.
I will remove the intake.
While I'm at it, i will completely remove the VVIS plate to get rid of unnecessary weight and give the car a little faster response/spool up time.

Aloha,
Steve

Steve,
Are you REALLY SURE you want to do this? The VVIS wasn't put there just because the engineers has some spart parts just sitting around. If I was removing my intake I would clean it and make sure it was working freely and then reinstall it.

I recently removed and cleaned an intake on a Nissan Pathfinder, especially around the fuel injector ports. WOW what a difference on smooth and quick the throttle response.

My car is turbocharged and the VVIS plate has been completely gutted to increase performance. The question is whether the complete removal of the VVIS plate would give any better throttle response than leaving in the gutted VVIS plate as a spacer plate.
I have more than enough WHP in the top end. I'm looking for faster response time.
