How should a late-model subspoiler be mounted on the trunk lid?

I bought a late model sub spoler to mount onto the trunk lid. I was expecting to hold it in position with souble-sided tape. When it arrived, it was designed to be bolted or clipped to the trunk lid. There is also a large (i.e. 2" X 3") protrusion sticking out in the center botom that either needs to be cut off or a hole cut in the trunk lid to accept it.

Does anyone know how the late model trunk lids were modified to accept the subspoiler?

Also, has anyone mounted the sub spoiler with double sided tape?

Any comments and/or advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I believe the OEM spoiler you talk about is in fact mounted to the trunk lid via pre-drilled holes that are there from the factory for '02+ NSX's.

Dali Racing sells the same spoiler which mounts via double sided tape. He has it in CF/CG and I think paintable black gel coat. It's also cheaper that the OEM piece.

If you want cheap, easy installation, and no messing with the trunk lid get the DR part.
If you want OEM and are willing to cut/drill your trunk lid then more power to ya! :)
Another option may be to make the OEM spoiler flat (cut off that protrusion and fill large holes in) on the bottom so it sits flush on the trunk with the tape.

I have the DR carbon fiber/carbon glass spoiler and it fits fine with no hassles using double sided tape.

Since I already purchased the OEM sub spoiler, I'll try to modify it and mount it with double sided tape. I hesitate to cut holes in the trunk lid.

Has anyone else modified the OEM part and mounted on an early model car with tape? If so, I'd like to know how it worked out.

Thanks,
Steve

I did the same thing,I bought the oem spoiler before I knew about the simpler knockoffs.Anyway we just shaved everything off the oem and double taped it.

John,

Thanks for the reply. Now that I know it will work, I'll do the same. I was beginning to think I might need to return the OEM part and buy an aftermarket one.

When you installed the sub-spoiler, did you leave the thin strips of weather strip foam on the part or did you remove it? I was wondering if it would create too much of a gap for the double-sided tape.

Aloha,
Steve
