HOW MUCH Will it Cost To Change A MANUAL TO AUTO On a NSX?

So how much would it cost to convert a Manual NSX to a AUTO NSX?

I'm sorry i have to ask, WHY? It would seem more logical to sell and buy another IMO

There are 3 on eBay right now:

One of them is even in Scottsdale. I could go look, if you want. :)

Found a bunch more on Auto Trader too. Here are just some examples:

Nothing. You can get paid to convert. Convert that is, as long as you sell you manual to buy an automatic. You;ll come out on top, all things being equal. ;)

Well if you are dead set to convert, i have all the left over parts from my automatic-to-manual conversion on my 91.

Its not an easy task, and one that a shop would charge an arm and a leg for. Cheaper just to do like KGP said..... trust me.

So how much is it to convert from automatic to manual? Tried ordering the gearbox from comptech but my dealer in Brunei does not guarantee that it will be perfect fit...

So how do you know if a gearbox can actually fit into my engine.

Btw, i have a 91 NSX...

See most nsx's i see for sale is manual.

I want to try to get an auto becaus ei live in chicago city of stop signs.

more easier on me

These are the parts that i had to purchase

- Manual Transmission (in my case 5sp)
- Manual ECU
- Manual TCS ECU
- Complete Shift Assembly
- Shift Cables
- Shift Boot + Knob
- Brake Pedal
- Clutch Pedal/Bracket
- Master Cylinder/Slave Cylinder/Related Hard Lines
- Comptech Powergrip 2 (Flywheel+Clutch)
- Flywheel Bolts (automatics are shorter)
- Tranny + Rear Lower Engine Mount
- Manual Guage Cluster
- Intermedial Axle
- Drivers Axle

- Crusie Control ECU Is Different, But I didnt change it because i dont use cruise control and plan on changing the steering wheel anyways.

- Manual transmission cars in the 91-93 dont have power steering, automatics do. You should either change the steering rack out, or rewire the speedo input to supply the PS controller with an input.

- You can change out the engine and cabin harness with a manual transmission one, but i elected to reuse the automatic, and just leave the additional plugs unplugged. I can use them later if i ever wanted to run extra sensors with out having to run wires through the firewall.

- You have to change a few water lines to bypass the transmission oil cooler.

- Thats about all i could remember from my experience.

Sorry, i havent had a chance to figure that out yet. I'm still working on a number. I purchased almost all of my parts new from the dealer ship to i spent quite a bit of cash, and i would like to get some back. But i would also like to be fair about what to sell it for. I'm going through each part to check the condition of it, and i'll let you know in the next day or so.

So far the only thing that isnt 100% perfect is the drivers axle CV boot has a nick in it and needs to be replaced.

Talk to you guys when i get heom from work....gotta fly i'm late

Ray,

Are you running the original auto trans engine config with the original automatic cam profiles?

Thanks,
LarryB

Larry,

Yes currently i have the automatic configured engine in there. an i'm losing some power because of it, although it does feel like it as some extra mid range "upmh" compared to another 5spd that i drove. But it doesnt have the same top-end.

I was planning to complete my large displacement NA engine and do the tranny swap at the same time, but some damage to the front bumper and fender prompted me to purchase the SOS widebody, and has since depleted my motor funds.

Still collecting parts, to finish the project when i have a little more money to spare. Decided to remove and sell the turbo, and go N/A to go with the JGTC theme of the car now. I'm waiting for Chris for finish some of his stage 3 and 4 parts (wink, wink hint, hint Chris) so i can finish collecting my parts and assemble the motor.

Funny thing; while searching for a 5spd tranny, i found one on ebay for cheap, and the only thing wrong was a bad synchro, so i purchased it, and figured on rebuilding it with short gears. Then i noticed Rob (RacerX-21) selling a 5spd that was in perfect condition, so i bought that one so i could just install it. Nice thing is that i purchased both 5spds for less than what i've seen the average market price of a single 5spd go for here in the market place. Now i have a core to send to SOS and have them rebuild it with short gears, while i drive on the 5spd i have in there now. Funny, i've had a couple peoplemessage me to quit hoarding all the trannys for myself. LOL!

Thanks for that info NA. However, I'm a little confused about the power steering controller needed to be rewired? Is it not possible to leave it as it is and just change the transmission proper?
