Amps need to come out . How much time should I plan on?
My drivers side door light switch sometimes works... What should I do to remedy that? Will the switch be obvious? Jeff

Depends whether you hit any snags or not. Sometimes the little leather-covered plate behind the inside door pull can be a pain to get out. The first time I did it I took it really slow and maybe took 30-45 mins per side max (speaker removal and all). 2nd time around it's a cinch... 10-15 mins. Not sure about the door light switch :confused:

Michael is faster than me. The first time I took off a door panel, i spent an hour or more making sure that I didn't break anything. He's right, its scary taking out the triangle plastic piece. Someone had already broken both of mine previously, so watch out for that. Once you get everything unhooked and undone (and make SURE you have everything ready to come out - see the FAQs, they're great), then it took quite a bit of upward force to get the panel out - pretty scary the first time. Try working the front, then the back, then the front again, rather than trying to pull up from the middle. I've found that I can get the front to come up first, then the rest comes up easily.

Now that I know what I'm doing, I can get it off in about 10-15 minutes.

For the switch, it should be a simple check with a voltmeter and possible lubrication or repair. Don't know what else to tell you there.

Good luck!

Eric

When pulling the panel upward also pull it away from the door inward. So kind of "in and up" and they come off relatively easy. You need to clear the chrome strip, that is what you fight getting them off.

The first time I did it I thought the chrome strip came with it, and learned the hard way, since I bent it:(.

- too true Larry - I think many of us perceived the same! I know I did.
Once you understand that it's a piece of cake!
It's like many things (console removal is similar) - you're never quote sure of what exactly is going on until you get it off the first time & see what was involved, then future events are relatively easy. I swear I have had so many panels off now I can remove one in under 5 mins easy!

My trick after all the screws are out & ready to remove the panel itself, is to first go around the perimeter to get all the screw tabs outside the rubber gasket;
Next, (driver's door) insert the fingers of my left hand under the top- rear (edge) portion just below where the rear sail panel bracket is and right hand grasping the rear-bottom of the panel - pull it towards the inside of the car with your left hand while at the same time leveraging up with your right in a clockwise motion - the binding point is the frame around the sail panel mounting bracket. By leveraging out & up at this point it comes out relatively easily. Continue to rotate it clockwise towards the front to remove it completely. Be cognizant of any connectors that are still attached - you may have to disconnect these (like the security indicator for example) as you are in mid removal!
For pass. door just reverse hands (right hand at top) and for re-assembly reverse the procedure, starting at front sail-panel with door panel raised at angle then rotate it down pressing into position in front of the chrome strip.
