The was the last session, and the only clean track I had all day as most of the instructors gave up and left.

Had fun, but I do have to say for the record that this was the most unorganized, cluster of a HPDE I have ever been to...

No printed schedule, no instructor - student assignments (they just said to pick two people). 1hr tech line, and then they just gave up teching and gave out the stickers, combined novice groups for the last session and 1/2 went out w/o instructors w/o being soloed (40+ cars). There were 170+ people - SCCA didn't have an event cut off, they just kept collecting money. Never again will I do a SCCA here - if I had to pay (was instructing) I would have been very, very pissed. There were so many people on the track that I didn't even use 3/4 a tank all day.

I stopped going to NASA events because there were too many people, with the HPDE, TT & Racers. But at least NASA was well organized, this was a joke.

Nice run at the end. At least you got one in for the day. How come the BMW at the end of the vid did not wave for you to pass?

Made a custom bracket and screwed it into the center speaker panel (ordered a new one first to make sure I could go back to stock - $25).

Attached a camera mount with a quick release on top of the bracket. Works like a charm. Camera is a Aiptek HD+ (1080p @ 30fps/720p 60fps) - $150.

Glad you ended up having a good time, however, this is exactly the kind of event at which SH*T HAPPENS. Any time discipline is lost or neglected, the atmosphere allows all sorts of Ugly Things to happen. Too bad for SCCA, good for you that the event was, um, uneventful. But not because of effort of the organizers, unfortunately.

SCCA is all about the club racing, not about Solo 1 or Solo II, or *whatever can make SCCA money* which is why I dropped being a member a LONG time ago.

Check out Chin Motorsports at chinmotorsports.com. They did a May event at Mid-Ohio, but unfortunately, none scheduled the rest of 2008. Maybe 2009?

Then who do you race your spec miata with? I think SCCA has been great all around. No complaints here, just good times. I guess it's all in what you take out of it. HPDE Days probably won't be the ticket.

Here are some pictures from my race this past weekend:

No doubt, as I mentioned in my post, it's all about the club racing and whatever makes SCCA money. SCCA really does a really great job at club racing. But for me . . .

I don't *race* my cars, I do autocrossing and HPDE, which is enough for me. In my region Solo has been the stepchild. Nationals and Pro Solo has been a blast but locally Solo has been sullied by politics and strange personalities. It's been a very long time since I've been involved with SCCA at the local level.

Maybe I'm being unfair but it is based on my personal experience. My point was exactly that: unless it's club or Pro racing, it's not a priority. Hopefully mine and CL65's experiences are isolated and not the norm.

Hey CL65...what tires are you running? Also, was this the first time you were using the DTC-60 pads? I thought I remember that you switched to them and I'm just curious how well they work.

Running Toyo R888s 235/40/17 & 275/40/17. Going to try the Nitos next. The Toyos are REALLY loud driving back and forth to the track (180 miles).

Yes, switched to DTC60s F / HP+ R. I love the new DTC60. Less dusting than the HP+, very, very little squeal and seem to be wearing OK. I only have two track days on them, but so far, so good. I would pick these over the HP+s for front pads. The only downside is they are alot more $ than the HP+.

Thanks for the info, good to know. I ran the HT-10 front / HP+ rear a few weeks ago at Autobahn. The HT-10 is a MUCH better front track pad than the HP+ I was using before in the front. After I burn through these I'll try the 60.

I'm still running the Falken 615. Although they're a good street/track compromise, they're just that; a compromise. They still don't compare to a good R compound.

Crap I forgot, are you rubbing with the 235 in the front?

yep. It rubs on anything over 3/4 wheel lock. As well, I had to raise the car up or it would rub on the wheel liner when going over big bumps (I was driving to the tracks with the Toyos).

If you run 235/40/17s on track wheels it isn't a problem. But if you have to drive there and back with them on then you have to raise the car about 1/2" and be careful about full lock turns (parking lots).
