I bought a 2001 NSX and wish to add keyless entry. I've searched the archives and found no info on how the system works; specifically. What happens when you lock and unlock the doors.

1. Does it arm/disarm the factory alarm system?
2. Does it flash the lights, or give an audible signal?

I know it doesn't unlock the trunk, but I can live without that. And, i'm looking to install it myself. The instructions seem easy.

Thanks

I've got the factory keyless for a '99. It arms/disarms the factory alarm but doesn't give an audible or visual indication when the remote is toggled - other than the sound and sight of the doorlock actuating... Aftermarket might be better in this instance.

This no indication thing realy got on my nerves. I added a 12v relay that uses the lock/unlock pulse from the keyless entry module to flash the parking lights. Cost is about $8.00 and an afternoon. Do it you will like it.

I cannot believe that keyless entry is not standard on these cars!

What I don't like is the lack of a trunk opener and the fact that the arm button is a toggle. If you accidentally hit it twice you will leave your car unlocked. I think I would consider an aftermarket system.

I like the idea of adding a the flashing lights to the stock system.

Matt,
I believe if you press the button twice it will lock the car automatically in a certain amount of time, so you won't actually leave you car unlocked for more than about 30 seconds.

DDozier,

I would love to do this with my car. I have the dealer installed Acura keyless entry.

Can you get real detailed on how to do this to someone who needs lots of details? Where is the "lock/unlock pulse from the keyless entry module" and how do you connect with the lights?

Thanks...

I think a lot of people would be interested - send it in and I'll post it in the DIY section of the website!

Lud,

Because I (and possibly others) don't visit your DIY section to often, could I ask that you put a link to it from here when you do receive?

Much thanks...

THANKS Dave,

Here is a link to your instructions:

The file is large and takes some time to load....
I will let you know how it turns out.
