My parking brake release button has most of the silver worn off and I would like to replace it, but can't figure out how you get the bloody thing apart. Or does someone make a nice black button cover or something to go over the eye sore. You can email me at [email protected]

Good question. The manual, on 19-27, shows the exploded parts but no specifics. Mine is in the same condition, cream colored plastic showing beneath the peeled chromed finish. It's a winter project for me so any insights will be valuable.

Good luck with a cover. The button slides back into a sleeve that fits very closely. I tried cuting a sewing thimble which fit perfectly over the button but would not slide into the sleeve. Back to the drawing board.

It unscrews. Since it's soft plastic you will ruin the chrome if you use pliers. But if it's already ruined no big deal. SOS sells metal replacements.

DOH! I tried to unscrew it but it was too tight and felt like I was going to break it so I stopped . I wonder how black fingernail polish would look ?

Thanks to all who contributed information. It really is an unsightly blemish that I now know how to remediate.

10 minutes and $4.78 plus tax from the Acura dealer.
I used a piece of clear vinyl hose to protect the new button as it does take pliers to screw it down. Tis a lovely thing, especially after living with that damaged one since I bought the car in March.
Thanks for the informative posts.

I wish this thread had happened several years ago! Anyway, I couldn't figure out how to get it off so on mine I just peeled the rest of the chrome off and painted it black with my touch up paint (my car is black) to match the e-brake. It has been a couple of years and has stood up well. Wasn't trying to go cheap .. just trying to make it look better.

Not too late to do it now
