How difficult is installing a comptech s/c?

I have read the instructions and there doesn't seem to be anything extremely difficult about the install. I am looking to hear about some experiences. Has anyone installed their supercharger on their own? How did it go? How long did it take? I didn't see a need for any special tools in the instructions so I should have that covered.
BTW-this is on a '91

If you know what you are doing, and have done it before, 8 hrs. I have heard of it being done in 5 1/2. I would budget 2 days if it's your first time. Make a weekend of it. Better to take your time and double-check everything. It's really not that hard if you take the time and have the right tools. I don't remember having to have any special or unusual tools, but I found my set of rachet-action flat wrenches to be very helpful in some of the tight spaces.

Good Luck!

As with most things, it depends. Do you have good auto repair/mechanic type experience?

Mark Basch came out to Virginia and installed his old supercharger on my car this past week. I helped where possible, and think I have learned a bit about the install. Mark installed larger injectors, fuel regulator, fuel pump voltage boost circuit, and supercharger. I think Mark could have finished faster without all my questions, but I wanted to learn as much as possible about my car.

The vacuum hose manifold is modified and the hoses are connected in a different sequence. Some of the nuts on the supercharger are difficult to get at without a “C” shaped handle 14 mm box wrench, but most things are pretty standard stuff. The most difficult thing is in knowing which items are taken off and installed in which order. There are also the intangible things, such as how to properly tension the drive belt. I would not consider this a beginners project. If you are good and have good instructions, I believe you could do this at home. It would also be handy to have a “lifeline” to call if you have questions.

Good luck on what ever you choose. You will be pleased with the additional performance.

Thanks for the responses. I have plenty of experience working on cars, I have just never taken on a project as large as installing a supercharger. I feel confident that I can handle it. I may look into the Baschboost some more before I make any final decisions. Thanks again.

His Boostness did mine in ten hours - five to remove the OEM parts and five to install the SC.

Two special tools I remember him having are (a) dentist's pick to lift the retaining clips off of the connector on top of the injectors (b) about four or five grip-and-release clamps for the numerous coolant hoses in the vicinity of the throttle body.

If you need a "lifeline", you can call Basch Acura M-F at 602 244 8010, or try my cell at any other time (except that I go to bed *very* early on weekdays) at 602 549 0999.
The C shaped wrench Roy mentions is a 12mm not a 14 and it is very helpfull for the 4 manifold bolts and one or two of the 4 nuts that hold the manifold. I have done them in under 6 hours, but rarely do I rush that fast. No reason to rush, take your time and do it BY THE BOOK. trust me, its the best possible sequence for a first time install.

Good Luck,
Mark Basch

Thanks Mark. Do you have a website with more info on your supercharger? If not could you email me with more information and prices. Thanks.

We have been trying to find the time to finish our website for quite awhile, but things (like SC's) keep getting in the way.
Look for it to go live this month.

Cheers,
Mark
