Discovered this horn at Griot's. Dunno if using exsisting NSX horn wiring will work? I searched Prime and came across an old post on aftermarket horn install but it seems like a different application. It seems kinda cool.

Anyone?

Thanks,

NOW YOU CAN HAVE THAT WONDERFUL ITALIAN AIR HORN SOUND IN ANY OF YOUR VEHICLES
Years ago we offered those old traditional-style air horns. Problem was, you had to find a place for the compressor, then a place for the horns, then hook up the tubing... Work, work, work, not much fun at all. These modern versions are much easier to install and everything is built into these compact units! These are true Italian Air Horns, and as you may know, only the Italians know how to make super-loud, ear-piercing horns! These horns are easy to mount, come with a relay, and easy installation instructions. Let's see: get taken out by a semi, or let them know you're there? You get to choose. Of course if you're going through town at midnight, blasting your horns, you deserve to get thrown in the pokey. Super loud, rated at 139 dB at 4 feet, 115dB at 6 feet. We now have two styles to choose from: The compact red horns or the ultra compact black ones. The compact red horns are 5 1/2" tall, 3 3/4" wide, and 4 1/4" deep. The ultra compact black horns are 4 3/4" tall, 2 3/4" wide, and 4 1/4" deep. 12 volt, 10 amp with two tones at 530 Hz and 680 Hz. The air pump is steel and the horns are high-impact plastic. Small enough to mount on cars, trucks, boats, or lawn mowers! The black horns are great for motorcycles as well. From our excitable, overly talkative friends in Italy.

Cool.... but i think that those italian horns lack that UMPH that is needed to get the point across (just like the nsx's, and every other honda's, motorcycle horn)

This is where it's at.

I tried those Hella horns, sounds quite whimpy and it didn't give me that "Yo! Watch it!!" sound. My tech installed a pair of oem mercedes horns and I like them. :)

Henry.

I have dual Fiamm air horns on my car (compressor and 2 horns). Everything is hidden inside the front bumper. It gives it that european exotic car sound (very loud) .

I love it  .

Just about any horn will work with the NSX. You know what makes a horn sound off??? Power and ground. As a test, you can take the new horn, hook one terminal up to positive and the other to negative.

It's a simple 2 wire installation unless the new horn draws so much current that you have to wire in a relay. Then it just gets slightly more complex but not by much. Definitely not plug and play but not very difficult either.

Malibu is right as usual. Mine does have a relay and is wired directly into the fuse and relay box in the front compartment. Then it has a trigger wire that runs to the (alarm) horn connector.

btw. It takes more juice to get really loud  .

Put the same horn in the Noble, plenty loud,

Right, the point I was making was if the new horns require more power than the existing circuit can handle, you will need to wire in another relay. There are some very powerful horns out there, stuff that will make your headlights dim and that require bigger wire.
Relay is probably fine, agree - more the wires that could possibly be limiting factor

I was just at my local "car shit boutique" and noticed that PIAA sells the pairs of electric horns in the original 400/500 Mhz configuration and now in a 500/600Mhz config for that "European" type of sound.

The place must have every brand of car wax and associated bullshit under the sun. They sell the Zymol NSX Glaze for $69.00 by the way.

i have that horn in both of my cars, one compact and one fullsize. they both sound exactly the same, are plenty loud, and have a very nice tone. be careful where you mount it tho cause one of mine injested (i assume) some water and now it sounds kinda muffled, i plan on getting another one tho

Horns are normally made for wet locations (under car, inside nose). Maybe the horn just didn't last long (failed).

The correct mounting position is with the horn's trumpet facing down. My PIAAs also came with plastic splash guards to enhance the water protection.

I installed two of the regular size close to the factory locations, horns pointing down just above my NSX-R cross brace. They both will fit with some effort. Also ran a relay setup to be safe. I did manage to drown one, but Griot's Garage sent me a new one no charge. They work & sound great and are a good value considering the price.

horns...

humm now that u mentiond it

I recall noticing a single horn Under the hood (inside) driver side near the firewall behind the driver headlight:rolleyes:

I was confused if it was the horn, so i verified and looked around and there I see there were 2 horns inside the bumper (near the radiator opening).

Hummm i wonder what that 3rd horn is? ALARM?

i'll try to post pix when i get a chance.

That's odd, my 2002 only had 2  . The one on the passengers side (behind the bumper cover) and the one behind the headlight both sound when the horn button is pressed. Or at least they did before i changed to the air horns. The air horns use the plug from the one behind the headlight to trip the relay so they sound when the horn button is pressed or when the alarm is set off. And that plug comes directly out of the harness. I will have to look and see if there is a plug on the drivers side behind the bumper cover, i know there isn't a horn.

btw. The dual Fiamm air horns ROCK. I wouldn't have anything else.

I stand corrected. just got home and took another look there is only one under the bumper as u described, not 2

your 02 is just like mine

Cool, now i am not so confused. I just checked and there was no horn plug on the drivers side. I know the older models had the three horns but i guess that was changed with the 2002+.

So, ya going to change yours out?

I have the fiamm compressor w/2 trumpets. If you choose something like mine don't do like some of the posts that i have seen for the older cars and put everything in the front compartment. The compressor and both trumpets fit perfectly inside the nose of the 2002+ and can barely be seen. Mine sort of has a sound in between a lotus esprit (old model) and a ferrari, and is really loud  . My only regret is i don't get to use it very much, I have heard it more in my garage than on the street :frown: .

Let me know if i can help.
