This was my second round at the 1/4 Mile. My previous best was a 13.3 but this time round i couldn't beat a 13.9 with more mods. I was spinning off the line as you can see as where it hooked up better previously.

With traction control on it would bog down.

I don't think the track was in great condition that day as my mates didn't get great times compared to previous efforts either but saying that some people were getting really good times.

I will post up some runs from last time later.

Knowing my previous best and my current spec i was hoping to get in the 12's. Maybe if i hooked up from the line it may have been 'possibly'

Way too much wheel spin off the line. On days where the track is slick you will have to bring your launch RPM's down and feather the throttle off the line until you feel it hook up. With a V8(5.7L) and street tires I have had to launch as low as 1800 RPM to prevent wheel spin and get a decent launch.

Mods? Weight reduction.

Got a few now.

Downforce intake scoop
Downforce DF-R intake vents
Downforce System stake intake
Big Bore throttle body
VVIS delete
Cantrell Headers (Ceramic coated)
STMPO Messiah exhaust system (Ceramic coated)
ATI Crank pulley
Baffled Sump
Engine Damper
SOS carbon carbon Clutch

Little weight saving additional to anything the above may have aided in.

Carbon seats
Carbon hood
Carbon spoiler
Aircon removed
Spare wheel removed
Carbon Battery
Toolkit removed ;)

This is a NA1 3.0 engine.

Running on stock rims Falken FK452's.

I think you can also improve your time by shifting earlier and faster.

I was shifting just before redline.

I know it sounds like i was hitting limiter, the tyres hadn't hooked up at this point and took the power off and put it on.

I know, was so frustrated.

We all make excuses but i was so annoyed as i had better times year before. Afterwards speaking to mates they all said they were struggling to put the power down and they usually stick the track up which i didn't see once, March over here is fairly cold also with lots of waiting before runs so the tyres were cold. We have another event in couple month see if it helps with warmer weather (track, Tyres) and hopefully the track will be in better shape.

Even still was rubbish on my part.

I tried a standstill launch from idle and it still spun and feathered the throttle. You only get 4 runs. Didn't get much time to perfect my technic, was my second time down the strip.

Dropped tyre pressure slightly also.

Maybe i should track it instead haha.

Sounds like it was really slick. Not much you can do if it is that bad aside from drag radials or slicks. A track day on a road course is a much more suitable environment for the NSX. :)

Can track conditions make that much difference?

I just seemed no matter what i did i still span, i could have put traction control on but it bogs down. I could have took it really easy off the line and once rolling go for it but surely this defeats the object?

I keep meaning to go on circuit but the car is too loud, going to address that within next couple of months. It's only slightly over.

Also i keep bottling it ;). Guess i will take some lessons with my first session.

This is my video from last year.

Possibly the 13.3 run.

You can see it is much better from the video.

Track conditions do make a difference and so do tires. Your 60ft time is key. If you can pull a 1.8 on street tires you are doing well. Can you post your timeslip? If you are running tires with a treadware above 180 then you cant expect traction. Hard tires get greasy when heated so burning out doesnt help. I used to run my worst times on slicks when guys with street tires were running. You want nice soft rubber on the track

Awesome!!

Thanks for the advice, i'll see about getting another set of rims for some R888's at least i can drive the car there.

Or is there a better tyre than the FK452 for both road and track? which is within the same budget? don't mind paying little more but anything too pricey i can't justify and would be better off with two sets of rims road and track.

Here are two more videos of the above runs but from within the interior shot on a Go Pro, you can hear and see where i went wrong.

I will post up time slips later when i get home.

From the second video i can hear its your tires. I hear you pedaling the car with no traction. One of my favorite tires are the Hankook RS-3's. They are very inexpensive and 140 treadware. They are roadcoarse tires not drag radials but they are great. I love the inside of your car. Your seats look like mine are they the Down Force seats?

With harder street tires I used to drive around the water box and then just do a couple quick dry hops to get the tires a little sticky. You don't want them to get too greasy which looks like what may have happened in addition to the track being slick.

I bet if you get some better tires or maybe even put some slicks on you will get a much better 1/4 mile time

I will give them a look. Yeap no traction, when it did hook up it was too late. Thanks, They are Bride Gias.

In the videos i spin the tyres up just before my runs, this is in a spot on the track before you get to the lights where they put something down for you to spin in. Not sure what it is, always assumed it was sticky stuff but no idea.

I really hope so :D

That is your main problem. After looking over all the video you posted, from the line it's like you spinning though out the whole first gear before you can even get a hook on the track.

Get some better tires that really grip and you should hit the high 12's mark easy.

Here are my times as promised, bit late! lol.

From last year where my times were better but the car was slower than what it is now:

Last Year
Run Reaction 60' 330' ET@594' 1/8ET 1/8mph 1000'ET 1000'mph 1/4ET 1/4mph

1 +.7531 2.02 5.66 8.13 8.68 81.98 11.22 96.72 13.37 101.28

3 +.7982 2.18 5.92 8.41 8.96 81.53 11.50 99.71 13.65 104.32
4 +.6787 2.34 5.99 8.46 9.01 81.97 11.55 96.92 13.70 101.49
5 +1.1377 2.25 5.99 8.47 9.03 81.23 11.57 99.50 13.73 104.07

This Year

1 +.5247 2.56 6.23 9.24 83.19 11.76 95.66 13.92 104.94

4 +.4403 2.69 6.63 9.67 82.42 12.22 94.83 14.39 103.97

So to clarify, my 1/4 mile times were faster last year with less power. The car is definitely considerably faster now compared to last year as my brothers Rx7 is my bench mark.

Take a look at the difference between this years and last years figures. What do you think?

I have ordered the runs with the fastest 1/4 mile times towards the top.

I can't get the results to align up properly. Also note there is no ET@594' for this year, they no longer supply that.

Like i figured those 60fts are terrible. Anything above 2.0 is ALOT of lost traction. You really need better tires. Like i mentioned with good tires you should be able to pull 1.8-1.9 60ft's. With drag radials you should get 1.6-1.7 but just so you know with drag radials the weakest link will give with good traction such as you clutch. The Nsx is not a drag car so personally i wouldnt put slicks or drag radials on it but rather run a soft tire 140-180 treadware. Anything harder you are wasting your time. I ran my Fwd Civic at 300whp on street tires and best i could run was 12.4 and put slicks on and ran 11.70's. So if you are running 2.4 60fts and can get a 1.8 60ft you have already gained 6 tenths in the first 60ft of the track:wink:

Cool, thanks! So that clears it up, my times were down to traction. Was very frustrated on the day not being able to put better times in after spending allot of money on the car. The clutch is a pretty strong point. It's the SOS Carbon Carbon.

I have my times easier to read.

great video, your shifting is not as fast as I expected... ?shorter throw maybe to capture a few more tenths? ... Shifter stalk also looks tall.
great show!
p.s. kinda neat how the shifting pattern in a RHD is still the same!

Few people have commented on my shifting :( lol.

Apparently Dave's short shifter will fit a RHD Nsx.

However as far as i'm aware no one makes a shorter shifter for the RHD.
