I have a home theater with the following:

Mitsubishi HD1000U HD front projector
Da-lite 106" Cinema Contour HC screen
Marantz 7200 Receiver
B&W speakers

I am thinking about putting 2 rows of Berkline theater chairs, but the room is used for everyday tv watching also. Does anyone have theater chairs in the room that they watch tv everyday? If so, do you perfer that or a sectional sofa?

Rob

I have some incredible leather reclining theater chairs with cupholders and
the biggest problem is they make eveyone who sits on them sleepy.
They recline the chair too much and next thing you know everyone is sleepy.
I read somewhere that serious home theater geeks put the seats against a rear wall or step so they will not recline and I have to agree with them.

If its a dedicated theater I would say nonreclining movie chairs but if its a everyday room
It would be odd.
I would go with a sectional leather sofa for easy cleaning.

I have a set of 2 reclining chairs that fit together. You can to two more. The good thing about them is they are oversized...my wife and I watch a lot of TV or movies, each with our real comfy chair, if we have guests over for a movie, two people fit in each chair comfortably, but cozy. For the kids, we got Love sacs.

I would highly advise against regular theater chairs for viewing.

You built this theater because you hate the public theaters...right?
You hate people chewing on food, talking, sticky floors, smells, crowds, not being comfortable, not being able to pee without missing something, etc., etc.

I fall asleep in my recliner all the time and yet I don't feel the need to blame it for making me sleepy. I understand the argument though.

Recline or not, I could never live without the foot rest.

A lot of theater chairs especially Berkline's have a very high back. This prevents your ears from receiving surround information as they completely block your head. My company does not install this sort of chair because of these problems. But its all a personal thing of how important that is to you.

Just watched Casino Royale in my theatre, we have 7 Barcoloungers instead of the commercial theatre seating, our friends love it, some just come over to sleep, and others to watch the movie in great comfort. cant beat the individual non-attached seating (IMHO). Do what makes you happy, just like the car, who cares what others think, please yourself!!!

Whens the next viewing Roger ?

Show-off!  !

I have a Panasonic PT AE 900U projector in my home theatre and prefer a sectional couch. I also have a sharper image HW562 robotic massage chair. Couch gives more options. It is just a matter of personal choice.

WHich B&Ws do you have?

I have been looking at the Berkline 088's with the electric recliner and lighted cupholders. I may put a leather sofa on the back row and 4 Berklines in the front row.

I have the B&W 803s's up front with a 6S2 center channel with 805 Nautalis bookshelf rears.

Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on the Berklines?

Rob

Tonight, either Babel or The Holiday, c'mon over Bailey!!! (after you put on the plate frame, you're welcome to watch the movie!!!)

I put in a simple leather sofa with outside seats that recline. It is great when you want to "sprawl out." It is a matter of personal choice. BTW: I have (4) 25w bass shakers mounted on the frame of my couch. They really add another element when your watching a non-chick flick!

Wow, looks like people here have great taste in HT! I also have a HT (Panny 900, Dalite 106" Highpower screen, 5.1 B&W Nautilus 805's, Pio elite receiver, Denon 1600 dvd player) and think it's great. I have a couple Berklines (I think 088's?) in a spare bedroom and would like to move them to the family room but my wife would have a fit! It would really clash with my other furniture. I think a dedicated theater is best for the Berklines, imo. Here is a pic of my humble setup. Someday, I hope to make it nicer as it's real simple.

I bought the 4 Berklines, I can't stay awake in them they are so comfortable. My wife likes it, but my dog hates them, he liked to lay next to us. I put a blanket over one of them and up he went. He was out like a light in less than 5 minutes. Here is a picture of them. I got them off ebay for $1000 for all 4 and picked them up in Philadelphia.

I have four recliners in mine and I love them! If they are up against a wall you don't have to worry about them blocking out the sound (cause the wall would do that anyways). My only gripe is that my recliners don't lock into place, so they will move if you switch positions which is annoying...

I have done more to it since, but here is an old photo...
