Highest Speed at a Track

With some of us posting bravado speeds at the track, how about we start a thread with what is the highest speed we have "actually" attained with an NSX at any track ;)

We are looking at what track offers the highest potential attainable speed for an NSX. Is it PIR, Road Atlanta, Texas' Motorspeedway, ...... ?

Ideally the info should specifiy the track, include minor specifics such as if normally aspirated or SC, Turbo, and whether on street tires or .......

For starters, and this by no means is a benchmark, my highest speed was about 125-130 mph (I was too worried to look too long at the speedo while trying to brake hard before the 40 mph turn); attained at Thunderhill Raceway Park on the front straight going clockwise on OEM 16/17 street tires, stock brakes with Panther Plus pads, NA 98-T. Second highest speed was 120 on the same track on the same front straight going counterclockwise. Both on 4th gear.

YMMV

when we run the long course at pocono there is ample oportunity to go fast. With 275/40/17 rears and stock gearing I saw a speedo reading of 148.With shorties and 4.55 rp I only see 140 and that is because the 4-5th shift is like hitting a wall with the HP I am running.

I saw 130 at Texas Motor Speedway in my stock 93. That was scary. I did not want to go any faster. I am sure many others here went quite a bit faster.

Road America, around 140 entering the braking zone for turn 1.

Michigan International Speedway, around the same running two thirds of the high banked oval with the infield course.

Both cases were getting to redline in fourth. It feels like there's more there, but the upshift to fifth at that point seems hardly worth it when you're starting to approach the braking zone.

Both places allowed for slightly higher top speeds than Road Atlanta or TMS.

Just to add some european tracks:

Hockenheim Old GP track: Over 155 mph before 1st chicane (needed 6th gear for some seconds), doesn't exist any more, bummer....
Hockenheim new GP (before hairpin): 152 mph
Dijon (former F1 track in France) before turn 1/ Spa-Francorchamps long strait after eau rouge: both about 150 mph

Didn't drive Monza myself but should be in the range of old Hockenheim comparing the F1-top speeds.

Magny-Cours before Aidelaide hairpin: about 146 mph (that's for cowards like me that are not really fast in the long right turn before the strait, otherwise you should reach 150)

all speeds measured with Yoko race slicks 210/580-16 front and 230/610-17 rear (smaller diameter than stock so the "real" speeds would be a bit lower)

150mph at the end of the straight in Monza should quite easily be achieved, I remember Andrea (seller of the Tubi exhaists in Italy, former member of teh forum) told me that he reached 250kmh.

Laguna Seca is a road course and the average speed is about 70mph. On the front straight, I got up to about 100 but only for a few seconds before you run out of track apporaching the Andretti Hairpin (Turn 2). I rode with Doug Hayashi in the Flamemobile and he got up to 115-120 but braked very late and hard. He has Brembos. :D

On Monza I did 262 kph (163 mph).
CTSC, short gears, special made magnesium (Technomagnesia) race rims, 230-610-17 front slick tires, 280-650-18 rear slick tires, Centerforce race clutch with light flywheel, CT-headers, Remus exhaust, test pipes, Brembo Big brakes, etc.

Spa Franchorchamps more than 155 mph on the straight after Eau Rouge to Camel. Hit the brakes full 100 m before the chicane.

Lausitzring more than 280 kph (174 mph) on the test track next to the race track.

And a bit off topic, 310 kph (193 mph) on the Autobahn and than I hit the revdelimiter.

I have to ask Ken if your touching 140mph going into 1 at RA what are you getting going into 12 Canada Corner? I dont watch the speedo that much more so the tach but I did notice my speeds into 1 and 5 are about the same but slightly higher into 12.

Ken what do you hit @ 5 and 12?

I always seemed to get my fastest top speed @ 12, followed by 5 and then 1 (due to the up hill section)

You can really scream into 12 Ken, even P.D. says he has to brake at the arrow, not the numbers!!!! You should be able to hit 110+ way back @ the kink already. I haven't run the NSX there yet, but with my Integra, I did about 135 @ 12, 130 @ 5, and about 125 @ 1.

As I can best recall (given the fact that I'm almost never watching the speedometer), around 135 into 5, around 133 into 12. I'm somewhat conservative going through the kink (on the way to Canada corner). I have seen my friends lose way too many cars at the kink at our drivers schools, which is why this is the only corner I have ever seen, at any track, where a speed limit is imposed during drivers schools. If you want to take the kink flat out, be my guest (not my student).

True, at BMW, I can only hit low 120's @ 12 due to the BMW pre-kink limit (85 mph) but at the other no limit events, the arrow approaching 12 will give you the fastest speed. (not for the weak of heart, or rookies for sure!!)

It is scary enough to carry 110+ through the kink it self, but to take the "loop" at 130's, and to brake at 140+ at the scariest braking point on the track IMO with little run-off area, is where I usually make up the most ground on my lap times, and on other drivers. The turn 8-12 stretch, seperates the men from the alter boys! :D

I also agree with you about cars lost in the kink. I see many in the wall ON THE WARM UP LAP!!!

Juan Pablo Montoya driving for "traiter" Chip G. back in the day was the only person I have ever seen/heard take a champ car through there without lifting! Now that is balls.

DangerMoney: I feel like a dinosaur with these historic memories - just for you the (AFAIK) last NSX ever passed the East-Curve-chicane on old Hockenheim GP - those where the days when my car had license plates...

Road Atlanta: 145+ before braking at 10a.
VIR: 150+, and still pulling, along front straight past start/finish. I lifted there, and coasted to the braking zone for 1, 'cause that was plenty damn fast enough, thank you.
Atlanta Motor Speedway: 145+, back straight, coming off of the NASCAR high banking, before braking for the road course chicane.
Roebling Road Raceway: 140, before braking at 1
