Higher rated Comptech SC/Integra alternator?

I have a CT on 98-T with 2 55W HID kits, EPS etc.. The Comptech downgrades to an Integra alternator and I wonder if anyone has tried installing an 'upgraded' higher rated alternator to reduce the kick to the battery.

Anyone?

And why do you call it a downgrade? Does it have less output?

I know it is used because based on the mounting orientation, it spins backwards compared to the original NSX alternator.

I had an issue with the alternator on my 2001 SoS S/C system. Every time I would stop at a traffic signal and idle, I noticed the volt meter needle would drop from 15V to 12.5V. The heater/ac fan would slow down, and if the headlights were on they would dim.

After ruling out a bad battery, I had the alternator rebuilt to a rating of 120 amps. (I believe the Prelude alternator used in the SoS system is only rated at 90 amps.) This alone made no difference as my voltage continued to drop everytime the car would idle at a traffic signal. Next, I replaced the alternator pulley with a smaller pulley (and a shorter serpentine belt). This resolved the issue. Now my voltage stays steady at 15V at idle. The real test will come soon when the weather warms up and I start using the A/C.

I don't know if my story is answering your question, but perhaps you may find it helpful (which is my intent). Good luck!

Philippe
