Is driving at high rpm most of the time, say 70-80% of the time hard on the car?
I know it's built for high revs, but am I asking for trouble?

4-5 or above.....because I enjoy having the power at hand to scoot around at will....just for fun.....to avoid bad drivers....make a light....manuver in heavy traffic....etc.

Is it hard on the motor?

This is certainly a topic open for debate, but similarly, I would say that downshifting is not as good on mechanical parts as braking, as replacing a transmission is much more expensive than brakes. The harder you push anything the more likely it is to break, or atleast suffer premature wear.

im the opposite, whenever i drive softly (shifting at 3000-3500k rpm) it feels "clunky" (could be due to my aftermarket clutch) but when i drive aggressive (but safe) shifting @ 4500+ rpm, the shifting feels alot smoother.

Except when you have the accelerator floored, there is absolutely no reason to be driving in a lower gear than you need to.

You shouldn't be cruising at those RPMs. If you are addicted to acceleration and are putting the car through the gears I wouldn't worry about it too much (although this does increase wear, the NSX should handle it like a champ).

I'm at 4-5K RPMs all the time. That's much better for the motor than having it rev too low then lugging it to accelerate. 80% of my shifts are at or near redline as well. One of the great joys in driving the NSX is making her heart sing. My '93 had 70,000 miles on it 2 1/2 years ago when I bought it. It now has 162,000 miles. The only things that ever "broke" in the engine compartment have been a couple of cooling hoses and a cat that jumped in and was immolated by the serpentine belt when the hatch was open and the engine running. Some Simple Green and a garden hose easily took care of the remains.

Keep your car well maintained and drive it the way God and her creators intended. She'll reward you with tens of thouands of miles and years of driving bliss. Just don't bolt on a supercharger or leave catnip on the valve covers. :)

Funny stuff!

Ya honestly 4 - 5k isn't really that high on the NSX, considering it revs to 8k; I'm in that range or more a lot around town.

If I am cruising on the highway I will usually be in 4th gear, or 5th in the 3k range.

Consider that if an engine has a certain lifespan that translates into a certain number of total engine revolutions, why wear out the rings and bearings prematurely? Downshift when you need the power. The gearbox is really fun.

RPMS are what wears engines.
