Hey guys i been seen the news and reading the paper they saying cars are getting broken in left and right. They saying that new maximas, altimas, BMWs etc etc headlights are been stolen from what i seen they dont know why this is happening but i know is the hids. They said crime in this has raised dramaticly in the past 2 months. I am not surprise cause now the only places we can get hids from is thieves and out of country shops. Actually is funny some people have actually traded in there car because of this, is too much of a headache for them. Hopefully they wil see what banding Hids has cause and change it back to legal to sell.

This is true...I have a friend of mine who live in Brooklyn, his headlights were stolen off his Maxima 3 times. He finally sold the car.

Today my boss lost his headlights on his 02 maxima. He park on parking lot and when we step out for lunch the lights wore gone. Not one scratch on the car. Lights wore gone. This is his second time :(

 That is absolutely crazy! I hadn't heard anything about it, that just blows my mind. Hopefully there's an end to HID thieves!

I don't think you can say it has backfired already because i don't see any place that is not still selling them.. my friends just ordered a pair last week.

Remember everything starts in NY/NJ and then it spreads ;) . But I was in the supra forums and they were talking about how a couple of shops got fined $5,000 for selling HIDs, soon HIDs are gonna be hard to come by and then is gonna be real bad with thieves stealing HIDs. I see it as a beggining of whats coming. Not to mention if you do come by them the prices are gonna go back to $600 -$800 bucks like a few years ago. So we prob will be real tempted to pick up Hot HIDs from thieves.

Maybe it's only back-firing in NY
That's actually no joke, it's very possible. winreboot, where do you work, in the city?

Well actually I dont mind it to much ill make it even more unique to have HIDs so F*** it. But damn i feel bad for does cars that are easy to steal them HIDs. I cant even imgine how much the Oem dealers will sell them for.

i should put a sign on my car saying i don't have HID's...

i don't think that the officials will agree with the fact that you guys mentioned. their egos are too big to swallow their pride.

i can see em blaming this to some import haters.. since there are only few american cars has HIDs. are there even any?

Well, with your username, you should be happy you live in New York. If you lived in California, you might lose your job. Then again, you might not.

I believe the thefts involving the Acura TL lights were because the lights from the TL and Honda Accord (98-02) were interchangable. After the minor facelifts that Honda does after 2 to 3 years, the thefts of TL lights have gone down... so I read anyway.

the stealing of HID happens long ago, and it had been floating around the TL and Maxima Forum for a while, Nissan actually made a kit for Maxima owner to "guard" the HID's.

I don't think the law that prohibits the HID sale "backfired" us as more HID thieves since you all know their bulbs were actually different. Since the normal Riceboy like you and me had the Halogen based bulbs... (H4, 9006, 9007) to name a few... Buying from "the source" meaning that you still have to fabricate the base (just like when people just started put HID on their cars 5 years ago.) It will be way too much work. At this time, all of us still have the opportunity to buy a kit from foreign country, ie: Canada... and install them on our car, before the gov't specifically made HID Illegal on cars...

The increase of the HID thieves are just because more 'kids' now knows the trick and the demand is more cuz the OEM equipped HID is increasing... There's always some people doesn't want to pay thousands to replace their headlights when it burns out.
(I'm not kidding, I lived in an up scale area that Porsche, Mercedes, Audis and BMWs are more than any other cars, yet, I have seen enough of "cheap" driver put Halogen on their HID cars, on only one side.) So I will blame for OEM manufacturers/dealers for the increased HID crimes...
 I don't blame the government anymore cuz I don't think they will do us (enthusiast) any good anyway.

If only the thiefs knew b4 they yanked out the headlights from your bumper.

They just have to come up with some new annoying law every day.
The law has been around for years. What happened recently is that they started enforcing it by going after the sellers.

Ya know, I think you are exactly right. I must've got my wires crossed when reading this thread. Thanks for straightening me out before I got reprimanded again.:D

Another reason to have the pop-up headlights so nobody can tell if you have made the upgrade or not :)

Unless of course the followed you at night after seeing your new HID conversion...heh.
