HID Problems

I purchased the McCulloch 5200 HID 9006 Kit from Chris at SOS about two years ago. This was the first kit he sold. The lights were installed about a month later and have worked great with out a single problem. I usually only drive the car on clear dry weekends when it’s light out. I have put at most 200 hours on the lights over the past 2 yrs. Saturday night the lights were working fine. I then went to move the car Sunday night and one of the lights would not work?

After talking with Chris at SOS and isolating certain parts of the kit we have narrowed it down to either the ignitor or the ballast on one side. Since the ignitor and ballast are wired together I need to replace them as a set. I asked Chris what options were available to me. He informed me that G-Garage has since gone out of business (it is now illegal for vendors to sell HID kits in the US) and that he does not have any replacement parts on the shelf. Chris has told me that he will do all that he can to help but like everyone else he too has a hard time trying to source parts for the kits he once sold.

Now for the help I need…a couple of questions that will help me get the lights working again:

Since I have the 9006 McCulloch 5200 HID kit do I need a ballast and ignitor from the same kit?

Is the ballast and ignitor designed specifically for the temperature of the bulb? In other words is it possible for me to use a ballast and ignitor from a 9006 McCulloch 7000 HID kit?

I am under the impression that you cannot simply switch out bulbs from one kit to the other which leads me to believe that the ballast and ignitor are rated/designed specifically for the bulb type intended for that kit?

Thanks in advance for any help. If anyone knows how I could get my hands on a working ballast and ignitor please send me a PM or post here. Right now I have two good bulbs rated at 5200 and one working ballast and ignitor.

Thanks, Paul

Can you source it from overseas? There are so many people in the US who have aftermarket HID kits that there must be someone supplying parts when they break.

That's what I am working on doing but I am finding it very hard to get the needed part. It's looking like I will be forced to purchase a new kit and go from there. Right now I have gone back to stock.

I had the same problem with my set, it went bad 2 weeks after the warranty.
They banned them on month before they went bad.

You can change brands and they work fine, at least they worked for me.
I had the McCulloch hid kit, and swapped the ballast and igniter from a Gourmet garage brand.
They both had the same rating.

There still are some off road shops that are selling them in Canada.
Like motorcycle dealers etc.

You might want to try the S2k fourm, they had a group buy on them not too long ago.
