So my daughters Celica has an Apexcone 55w kit {large ballast}. Lately on rare occasion the drivers light doesn't work. I've tapped on ballasts checked all connectors ect. Does this sound like a ballast issue or bulb issue. I have a spare 55w kit {slim ballast} and wonder should I start with replacing the ballasts first? Thank in advance.

Try swapping the bulbs from side to side to see if the issue follows the bulb. If it does, just replace the bulb. If the problem stays on the same side, there is another issue, like ballast or wiring.

I was afraid that was gonna be the answer. Bulbs are a PITA to get to but you are right. That is the answer. Guess I have a project for tomorrow. Thank for the quick reply.

Yeah, sometimes they are a PITA. I had a 2003 Civic that went through bulbs often and they were a pain to replace :frown:

If the bulbs are hard to get to, you can swap ballasts too to get the same effect. You could also use your new spare slim ballasts to connect to the old bulbs to see. All those options should help you get to the root of the problem.

Also, do you happen to have an external wiring harness direct to the battery on the kit? Or are you using the stock OEM wiring? If you don't have the wiring kit, that would be my next suggestion to wire it directly to the battery.
