1. depends on the kit you get.
2. don't honestly know.
I would contact Prime member WhiteNSX (steve) as he sells kits custom made for the NSX.
Good luck.

1. Yes you do cut a hole in the dust cap. It can be done with a hole saw or Cliffud did it with one of those wood bits.

2. It's a simple job to run the wires through, most kits come with that large grommet. It will not melt the wires or burn the caps. Just remember that the positive wire on the NSX is reversed, so you will have to move the positive wire on the 9006 plug.

Drill high on the dustcap as shown here. If you drill in the middle, it will be harder to get the plugs back in.

You could drill a big hole like shown above. I actually found that drilling smaller "line" all the way from the bottom of the cap is easier, (just big enough to run the wires through.) since you might not have a right size drill bit; and its smaller opening avoiding mositure a little better.

Thanks guys just got it done. would like to thanks everyone here on prime for all the help. if i knew how to post pics i would. got everything i want done to the car for now. now waiting for clutch, timing belt, water pump install.

I know this thread is old but for whomever comes across it I have personal experience with the Dali HID set. it is completely plug and play and has excellent install directions. No drilling required and the whole thing looks stock except for the obvious ballasts in the rear of the headlight assembly.

What is it about these kits that makes them custom NSX specific?

I bought a 9006 kit from the Internet and it was plug and play in my NSX. My installation doesn't seem any different from the "NSX custom" kits. Drill 1" hole is dust cap. Hook up the wire reversed.

I have steve's (whitensx) kit and he has such detailed instructions with pix and includes every little thing such as zipties so that any putz(like me) can diy.I'm sure any of you guys who are above average handy could install any kit bought over the internet.

The thing I like best about WhiteNSXs kit is the quality of the components. I don't think you can buy a higher quality kit than the one he sells. I like them so much I bought two.

The reason I am asking, is because when I bought my first HID for the NSX I was worried that it had to be customized for the NSX. That's the impression I got from most of the HID vendor threads on Prime.

For my first HID, I bought a "customized NSX" from a HID vendor here on Prime.

Since then, I have bought over 4 other HIDs from different manufacturer and vendors for friend's NSX on the Internet.

The installation is exactly the same on all of them. Nothing appears to customized specifically for the NSX.

I just want to share my experience for those HID newbies. I've found HID from the Internet much cheaper than the "custom" NSX HID kits. They come with a lifetime warranty also.

Sorry a little late seeing the replies to this thread. The big hole is to accommodate the grommet which fills this hole perfectly. There is less chance of moisture when your grommet fits right. Better than drilling a hole that isn't weather tight.

As for customized for the NSX, the 2 things that are customized for the NSX are the dustcaps and the wires being in reverse. Shouldn't be a challenge for most people.

There are two ways to go IMO. Buy a really expensive kit or buy a cheap one. Honestly, there are advantages to either. What I would not do is pay a lot of money for something you can buy cheaper, that's just common sense. A good warranty can go a long way when buying the cheap kits.

As always, buy kits that power the ballasts with relay(s).
