Hello,

Is it possible to replace the buld in an off-the-shelf driving light with HID bulb and associated electronic (ballast, etc)? If this is possible, please forward sources for the HID bulb and electronics. Many Thanks!

I assumed that the term "driving lights" in the original inquiry was referring to auxiliary lights in the lower front air dam, rather than the main headlights for which the link above refers to the Science of Speed HID system.

Yes, NSXTASY (Ken?),

I made a custom hood (see attached) using off-the-shelf driving lights which do not produce enough light. I couldn't find any complete (bulb, housing, etc) HID package that has the right shape and dimension. So I am thinking of replacing the "normal" bulb with HID bulb and associated electronic, assume the bulb fits and the housing can tolerate the heat. I thought I read somewhere that HID set-up generate less heat than conventional, is this right? Many thanks again you guys.

It's not a Photoshop. I am just a bad photographer. Also the sun has been hiding for the last several months around here.

Let me make sure I understand you correctly, because this seems hard to believe. You custom-made a hood with holes where the lighting would go. The holes only accommodate some lighting that is too dim - probably because it is not intended for use as headlights. So now you are looking to install HID lighting into a hood, into holes that were never designed to accommodate any particular lighting system except one that doesn't give you enough light. And you're expecting to find an HID system that fits and works properly in your custom-cut hood with tiny openings for the lighting. Is that correct?

I'm not really sure if i get what you're trying to ask...But it seems like you want to setup a headlight assembly into the custome holes you have in the hood section.... Well it would be pretty simple to build a system with HID setup there....Its just pretty much like a integra headlight setup you want....You can just go to Hella and order a set or 2 of HID projector Lamps, then D2S bulbs and ballasts and you're all set.

NSXTASY,

If I count all the costly mistakes that I've made, I'd be retiring by now ;-). It looks like this one is continuing the train. Actually, the project started out with HID deep in the back (height requirement) and plexiglass cover (like a couple of existing cars), I didn't like (remember to each his own) the look. So we moved to a 3-lights (per side) design with part of each light rise above the hood line. Then we moved to a Pagani Zonda design which looked right on the Zonda, but didn't look too good on our NSX. I just didn't like having part of the light housing above the hood line. So I thought forget about providing proper illumination, I just want the look and provide proper illumination via HID lights mounted on the bumper. This resulted in the latest and last (hopefully) iteration. With all 4 lights on, there are actually enough illumination. Someone told me that I can replace the standard bulb with HID bulb and ballast, hence my first posting for this thread. I think I found the source to do this now. By the way, for each design, we had sketches which didn't quite convey the end impression of a physical implementation.

Tobal,

thanks for your suggestion, I will look at the Hella site. Although I need to keep the existing light housing (shape and size constrain) and can only replace the bulb.

Acura NSX Pilot,

The rear wing is not a burn up wing. It's all custom made. Well, I didn't plan to post these following images until the car is done, also it's my first doodling, so you guys be gentle ;-).

This is the first add-on wing (I want to say "aftermarket" but I'm not sure that word normally applies to things that are custom-fabricated) that also retains the stock wing. Like an aerobatic biplane...

...oh, and I like the wheels.

I sincerely hope it looks better after you are 100% done.

I am truly sorry to express my honest opinion, but I must...

It looks horrible! ! Put the money and time into the engine and return the exterior back to stock!

It reminds me of some new Nike basketball shoe.
I had to do this, I felt like it was my duty.

Snyper2727, it's all right. Yes the stock NSX, elegance and refined, almost a perfect supercar even now! I let out a little whoop whenever I get into if after not driving it for a while. Jumping between it and a purpose built race car and one would appreciate it even more. It is very close to being one, yet reliable comfortable, and forgiving. Still after having it for almost 10 years, I get the urge to make it wilder. Maybe I should go out buy a motorcycle and find a voluptuous co-ed instead, however that likely will resulting in irreversible consequences ;-). Where as I still have all the original NSX parts and can put it back to stock in a few hours. It certainly a polarized mod and there're still fenders and skirts to go.

Yes the engine, before bolt on a turbo or supercharge, I'd like to try these things: direct injection & ignition, camless, slide (or barrel) throttle opening. I need a machine shop though, these parts aren't available off the shelf.
