My trackmasters even is coming up next weekend and I just realized I don't fit in my car with a helemet on. I tried it and I had to seriously hunch over with my helmet pessing down on my head and neck. Now I have a work week coming up and not much time to fool with the car. What should I do? I don't even know if I can get a Dali cushion in time and get it installed. How hard is it to remove the seat and remove the bottom pad? These are factory silverstone seats I do not want to ruin. I don't know if have enough time to research and buy racing seats now... will I be able to run at watkins with the targa off?

Help!!!

Remove the seat and remove the bottom cushion. You won't damage the seat. There was a FAQ on removing the seats, but I can't find it in the Wiki...

Anyway, just remove the cushion and bring a towel because the seat pan is most uncomfortable to park on.

Removing the lower seat cushion is a PITA and you will have to cut a few of the retention clips. The easiest thing to do would be to borrow a set with rails made for the NSX.

borrow a set of seats and rails? I'm not exactly in Socal, I have no idea how I would do that. I wish I would have tried the fit with the helmet earlier!

Can I remove the bottom cusion and just put it in there temporarily when driving back the 6 hour trip? I hate to sit on metal the whole time.

If I buy seats I think I will just buy one racing seat. I'll keep the stock seat and put it back when need be. I am just still not sure how much room that will buy me. I have never gotten a definitive answer if any aftermarket seat actually increases headroom. I know some make it worse. I know you can tear away at the factory foam, but I really have no desire to ruin a set of 2005 silver seats.

go ahead and removed the seat cushion, if it's impossible to put it back for temporary use. Couple folded Towel will do the trick, heck, maybe a pillow would work too.

There is an upholstery shop in Providence that swapped my driver seat bottom cushion with the passenger side, Frank's Auto Top. I could not tell that they did any work on the seats. Just a thought - I think doing any work like this is difficult and best left to the pros. They are off exit 17 I95.

Guys I looked closely at my seat today, the bottom part and the back part are essentialy one piece. The leather is sewn together. I don't know if this is the case with earlier cars or not, but unless I cut every stitch in the joint between the seat and back, it is not coming apart. It looks like the dali piece is already covered in leather and a seperate piece. Are the seats in earlier models actualy two seperate pieces of leather?

Now I am even more screwed because there is no removing the seat bottom since it is one piece. I'd have to remove the entire seat cover.

The seat cushion's back part turns 90 degree and the first panel from the bottom of the backseat is part of the cushion. You can verify this by forcing your finger or a soft flat plastic ruler to see it goes through. It is hooked by a very sturdy plastic across the panel - you need to force that out after you take the seat out.

Here is Harry's post on the how to do it, it was a bit easier when I did mine. http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showpost.php?p=916889&postcount=10

Taking the cushion out will give you about 2" clearance from the T-top, give you a much more racing bucket seat fit, and actually a better feel from the butt as to how the car is handling. As others suggested, use a folded towel for the seat if you can't find some foam or cover.

My first track weekend I got a ~$5 sleeping bag roll from a Sporting Goods Store than removed the seat bottom and using scissors I cut a folded pad that had two larger rear tabs and the fold in front.

Was quite comfy and the Track was 5+ hours away

I'm thinking of buying one of those foam memory pillows and cutting it. Like the tempur-pedic stuff.

Just in case you missed my earlier post I am bringing up an extra racing cushion for you.

Thanks! I will remove my cushion here obviously and drive down without it on. I do not want to be doing this at the track. I am guessing the one you have will be a drop in? Do I need any tools?

No need to remove the cushion at home. Just make sure you follow the procedure to do the initial removal and drive to the track with it in place and we can swap out the cushion at the track. I only take out the cushions at the track. You can leave your good cushion in my garage bay.

No need to use any tools to put in the racing cushion since it simply drops in place.
