I understand the R-77 is a "Tri Coat" (i have a 1991)
Base coat, top, then the tinted clear.

However, I pulled a 1997 Acura Paint code Service Bulletin (I believe its the same as the 1991) off Prime and now I'm totally confused.

For Dupont it states
Base N9391
Top W9953

For PPG
Base 4367
Top 4437

Sikkens (which one shop in the area uses and state they make a quality paint)
It just states 3885

Spies Hecker (There is a top notch Spies Hecker facility that is a certified Speis Hecker traning facility near my home, and I hear Spies Hecker makes a good paint)
It Just states 30376

Now I hear Sikkens and Spies Hecker makes a good paint but why do they only list one paint code?? Is it only single stage?:confused:

I need to get the following repainted, rock chips etc.
Nose, Hood, both front fenders and rear bumper (plus Downforce Stacy Side Skirts,,, on order... They recomended Glausit?? or Spies Hecker paint)

. The doors, roof , trunk and doors still shine like new.

Any help would be appreciated:biggrin:

Yes.. That was it Glasurit. I was told only to use top quality paints.
I'll tell you it gets confusing... I need a quality paint with good workmanship!!
That's were I see the dilemma! The paint manufacturer has nothing to do on how good the result will be. Being certified by the paint manufacturer doesn't avoid that you get a painter that has tomatoes on his eyes or is to dumb to match the paint like my self-called 'high-end shop' was. He used Glasurit, I believe. I personally would choose DuPont and would have a look at the paint match on a test panel before they paint the whole car with it.

There are plenty of stories out there where they haven't been able to match the paint with product A, but finally got it right with product B. It all depends on the effort of the painter and the support of the paint-line to match the color.

Agreed. and we all know how picky we all our of our baby.. "NSX" ----

Just be careful.

R-77 is called "Formula Red" and was from 1991-1999
R-510 is called "New Formula Red" and was from 1999-2005, which is slightly lighter in color than standard "Formula Red"

I think any good paint shop would adjust base formula so that the color truly matches before spraying it down but I know some don't.
