hi
My CEL light is on when engine cold. After a few miles ,if I turn the engine off and on again, the light disappears.
I have just pulled the code and I get 8 short blinks of the CEL light.
I cannot find a code that relates to this.I thought it might be one long blink followed by 7 short ones but I tried several times and it is definately 8 short blinks.
I am stumped.Any ideas?
cheers

Pull the clock fuse for a minute to reset your ECU and try again. If you get the same 8 flashes it may be your EGR has insufficient flow (code #80 - you may be interpreting long blinks as short blinks).

Thanks
I reset the ECU and am getting the same 8 blinks.

He may have a OBDI car (what is it - pre 1995 - I forget)?
1992
I have checked again and it look like a code 80,ie 8 long blinks.Even after resetting the ecu,the CEL light comes on immediately the engine is started. As stated previously, after the engine is fully warmed up and then switched off,the CEL goes out.However.it will come back on again a few miles later.
Code 80 is EGR insufficient flow.Looking on Prime, this appears to be a common fault. Is it something I can sort out myself or should I take it to the dealer?
cheers

Go to the Wiki forum, download the service manual. It will show you the EGR system and you'll be able to determine if it's something you want to mess with. Normally if the problem is the EGR, you can clean it out with carb cleaner and it'll be fine (it's an exspensive part). But there's also a EGR solenoid(? sp) valve that in my experience with other engines is usually the problem. I haven't gotten into the system on the NSX yet, so maybe someone with experience on this car could give you better advice.
Happy Motoring!
