Help: Nitto NT01 question?

I've been running Toyo R888's for two years and have recently switched to Nitto NT01's. Wow, the NT01's are leaps and bounds better. They're easier to drive, have more grip and are ultimately faster.

One thing I'd like to find out is how many heat cycles are you guys getting out of the NTO1's? I could only get 2-4 track days (10-15 run groups/heat cycles) out of a set of shaved R888's before they started falling off dramatically - even though the R888's had plenty of tread remaining, they were hard, slippery and slow.

I have two aggressive days at Laguna Seca on a new set of shaved NT01's (11 run groups/heat cycles) and they are still very good. Can anyone shed some light on how long their NT01's stay quick?

I did the same switch from 888s to NT01s.

Wish I could be of more help, but I was cording the NT01s way before they heat cycled. My home track (Putnam Park) is very hard on tires and I would go through the NT01s to the cord in 4-6 track days (16-24 20 min sessions) and +/-2400 highway miles (to/from track).

I'm back on Dunlop Z1s because I was using a set a rears a month and set of fronts every other. Couldn't afford it.

The inconsistent performance, short lifespan, and higher cost of the R888 is why race series such as Spec Miata (I think both NASA and SCCA) have gone back to the RA1. I don't know how many heat cycles the NT01's can take but aren't they the same compound as the RA1? If so, they should be relatively fast until they are corded.

while I'm not an aggressive tracker, I had gone with my 2nd set of NT01, unshaved. I didn't notice any big performance drop over time. The first set I had lasted more than 2 years with more than 10 track days. However I usually don't drive the R compounds on daily nor going to very far tracks. (my local track is only 35 miles away from my home.)

In fact, in terms of consistency of staying grippy IMO NT01 is better than RA1.
however, my nt01 is on 17/18 and my few sets of RA1 was 15/16.

I haven't used any up totally but I have some that are getting there and I haven't noticed any heat cycling.

However, it looks like the NT01 is only going to last me about 60 percent (or less) of the number of track miles I was getting from the RA-1. I'm considering going back to the RA-1 for that reason.

NSXTAsY,
Where have you been? Haven't seen much posting lately.
