Okay, I've been away for awhile and haven't had a chance to drive my car. I decided to take it for a spin and guess what, my battery died!

I tried to jumpstart it (following the owner's manual exactly) and once I had everything connected the jumper cable started to melt the plastic sheath around it! Smoke started to come out so I immediately disconnected the cable. Any thoughts on why this might happen?

Are you sure you had the cables on the proper connections?

Did you jump start to the Positive terminal in the engine bay fuse box? There is a terminal in there that says "Jump Start" also make very sure you have the Ground cable connected to a good ground on the engine or chassis....

Yes and yes. Like I said, I followed everything exactly. The ground is suppose to be the boss on the intake manifold, there is a negative symbol there too.

I did read online that it could be faulty cables. I bought some new ones just now and will attempt to jump start it again later today.

Let us know about the faulty cables. In the past I had to jump my car if it sat for a few days. Now I have a solar battery charger and never have to jump it. I would want to know how to check my current set of jumper cables in the event I needed to use them at some point in the future.

Good luck.
