I was pulling out of the neighborhood and suddenly my tachometer dropped to 0. It never picked up again. Everything else work and the car drive just like normal.

I'm going to check the fuses and the ignition switch in a bit. Any other suggestion?

speed sensor on the transmission

could have come unplugged

or depending on miles it needs to be replaced.

easy thing to do

2 bolts hold the thing in.

now price at dealership I could not tell you.

goodluck

the first pic shows a green plug, that is your Vtec plug, the plug is actually 2 feet under that green plug.

Speed Sensor will kill the speedo, not the tachometer.
Unplug the Speed sensor and you will see your speedometer stop functioning.

Not sure what feed the tachometer off hand.

Holy crap, your right for some reason I thought he said his speedo sorry I had a brain fart.

also there is a wierd burnt smell coming from somewhere in front of me. I can't quit locate it. I have a feeling this might end up bad.

Reviving this thread... I replaced the passenger side of my carpet yesterday and my tach doesnt work today. There must be some sort of plug underneath the passenger footwell that also affects the tachometer. Anybody?

I think it's time to pull your gauge cluster!

I've had one catch fire from a leaking (shorting) capacitor, that was not fun.......

Catch it before it goes into full meltdown, and you can send the 2 circuit boards to Brian K for new caps.

Not ready to go that route yet. I'm going to pull the carpet and snoop around. Car was fine on Sunday.

Sorry 'Teej', that comment was meant for 'ysoslow' until I realized that this thread was bumped from April.

I would be interested to hear what came of that 'weird burnt smell' he referenced...........

I have had issues with my tach since I bought my NSX. It works perfectly 90% of the time, but sometimes it will drop to zero with no change in engine rpm.

Interesting, I pulled the carpet in the passenger footwell and started playing with wires and it works now... there are three plugs that run into the power steering module thing. One routes from the gauge cluster. Somewhere in the branch of wires I think the tach wire got pinched or something. Will see when I reassemble

Both my speedo and tach went to zero for about 5 seconds this morning then went back to normal, freaked me out. It was raining lightly this morning as I was driving around (was coming home from work, night shift) which is probably the first rain this car has ever seen in a while *shrugs*. Just got this car a week ago. Should I be worried? Should I invest in a portable/mini fire extinguisher just in case? Where to get a portable/mini one? Thanks!

Great question.

I was lucky that I had an old mini Halon extinguisher in the console, which I used to put out the dash fire.
You can't get Halon any longer, but I did find a HalGuard (model HG100C) "clean agent" extinguisher on Amazon.com that hopefully will do as good a job going forward if needed.

I checked out that Halguard model, not bad. $130 though! What about this one? It's a tenth of the price.

I searched the current options out there, but went with the HalGuard because it was the only one I found in a compact size that had an agent like Halon.....that leaves no trace of powder or anything that could damage sensitive electronic components.
A new (used) dash is hundreds of dollars, so in that light the $130 doesn't seem so outrageous.

My $.02 ;^D
