My 2002 NSX has ca 600 miles. While driving it the other day the EPS (Electronic Power Steering) instrument panel light came on near home. So I parked the car and restarted the car after a short rest (like in owners manual) and proceeded to drive it a short distance.......but the EPS light remained on. The steering is much tighter indicating that something is not normal, but the car can still be driven without alot of steering effort.

My question is even though the car is still under warrant its ca 100 mile drive to the nearest Acura dealer for servicing. Is it unsafe or potentially damaging to drive it ca 100 miles with the EPS light on and the steering feeling tighter than normal? I could have the car flat bedded if needed.

Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks for any assistance.

I have a 2002 NSX also. I have NSX R gears installed and sometimes they make the EPS light come on. All this means is that the electric motor is not assisting the steering rack. You can pull the 7 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood and it will reset the EPS. I have made the inquiry about damage to the rack with it not being active, and from what I understand no damage will come by driving the NSX with EPS off. I would get it to the dealership to find out why it went off line on.

i know the older nsx's had a tsb on the eps control unit you might call the dealer before you go if it has as a tsb they can order the part for you before you get there
