Helppp!! Under any acceleration I am getting a pretty significant driver side vibration. Bad enough I had my car towed last week and didn't want to chance something coming apart and causing major damage. It happens under ANY throttle increase that puts torque to the drivetrain. Is it possible the axle is shot that it would cause a vibration such as this??

I jacked the car up and pulled the wheels, put the car in gear and went through the gears (5th) and can see/feel the vibration. Is it possible the axle has worn/come apart? I believe Larry B replaced one when he did work to my car a few years back, unsure if it was Dr. or Pass. side. My car is significantly lowered on Tein Ra's so I'm sure that puts a bit more strain on the axle. I thought maybe wheel bearing/ball joint but it seems to me its the axle.

If it is the axle, wheres the best place to source a new/reman. one??? I believe the dealer has to be alot which I don't really want to spend, if not where to source a used??
thanks in advance !!

Chris

Could be as simple as an unbalanced tire or wheel.

Henry.

It only does it under throttle, and if I push the clutch in while it does it it doesn't vibrate. Which makes me think the axle somehow could have came apart? It appears the boot is ripped, I wonder if the grease came out since the car is well lowered and possibly wore out the bearings?

If the boot is ripped, regardless if the car is lowered or not, grease goes out, dirt gets in and your bank account will loose the more pennies the longer you wait.

bump. any help guys??

Also, any idea where to pickup a used/new driver side axle>??

some of the axle parts (inner/outer?) interchange with the Legend.

I can't remember the specifics but I posted it a while back (if you search).

Hey Drew,
I searched your old posts about the Legend axle parts interchangability and was wondering if you could clarify a few things.

You stated that the NSX axles uses the Legend inner CV on BOTH ends, which side (dr/pass) axle where you refering to (as the inner on the dr and pass side are different)?

Also, is the entire joint interchangable? or just the bearings/Y joint?

I'm asking because the part numbers for the inner/outer joints are different for the 91-95 Legend vs the NSX. However the spline counts are the same for both:

Spline Count of Inner Joint:31
Spline Count of Outer Joint:30

If its interchangable, you can totally rebuild your axles super cheap as I just called NAPA and you can get Legend axles for $50 ea and pouch the parts from it to rebuild your NSX units.

Any input would be great!

I just ordered new Legend axles today from www.raxles.com The place has a great reputation and lifetime warranty. They claim their axles are as good if not better than OEM. Talk to a guy named Marty - nice guy and very smart. I'm sure they'll have the NSX axles. The Legend axles were $129 a side FYI.

gawd, its been a while.

I believe it is the boots, spider works and bearings.

Drew

Thanks for the reply... So assuming the boots, Y-joint and Bearings are interchangable, and the fact that the Legend and NSX have the same splines, one could deduce that the CV housing itself is also the same between the two?

No luck on the nsx axles, Marty axle said he has never even seen one :frown:
