Iam a senior in hs and I would like to try being an RN. I like to help people. Its either a RN or assistant principal at a school. Since Iam not sure what to major in at college I decided to go with a 2 year community college for 2 yrs then transfer out to a univ. I guess my questions are what is it I have to major in when I go to cc? bio? chem? human ana? Any other tips/comments would be thankful.

Thanks a bunch

Not trying to speak for him, but i'd say the basics would be things like your math, language or whatever courses you need to get out of the way. even if you go in exploratory to college you still have classes you'll need to take.

Let's start at the beginning:
You'll likely want at least a Bachelor's Degree from a 4 year university to do either the 2 jobs you mentioned. Your goal is that degree.

I would the following things as a senior in HS.
1. Mentally pick a major and 4 year college (you can change later)
2. Pick junior college that is recognzed by the 4 year college you plan on attending. The point of junior college is to build up credits cheapy that transfer to a 4 year university, and count towards your major. Find, apply and work out the financial details (scholarships? Grants? etc.) with this junior college for enrollment.
3. Research the major you plan on at the 4 year college you want to attend. Your goal is to plan out what classes you are going to take what semesters to graduate from the 4 year college. You can find course requirements online - for example at UCLA's School of Nursing .
4.) Register for your first semester's classes. All majors have some basic level classes students have to take (generally 100 level classes - English 101, Foreign language, basic math and science and electives like history or philosophy). These are the classes you want to take as a freshman and sophomore at junior college. They will transfer to your 4 year university so you can take the classes specific to your major during your junior and senior years. For nursing, I suspect these are higher level biology/chemistry classes.

As far as a major from a community college, I wouldn't worry about it if you plan to go on to a Bachelor's Degree. You want the credits, not the degree.

oops. Sorry for being so vague. By basics I do mean your math, english, speech, science, kinesiology, govt, history, arts, and two or three electives depending on the college. If you are going for RN the there will be a ton of science classes. Good luck and keep your focus. My mother in law as well as my sisters in law and all her aunts and uncles are all RNs. There is going to be some major studying but it will all be worth it in the end. Good to see that you have a direction in which you wish to travel.
