Heated Seats

Now that winter is here (sort of, "winter" is a strong word to use when you live in San Diego) I find myself wondering why my exotic convertible super car doesn't have heated seats. I should probably do something about this horrifying oversight.

So has anybody here installed a heated seat kit in their NSX? Anybody researched them, or installed one in any other car? I know they exist, but that's about all, so any help would be appreciated

I did have them in my old 95 Legend LS...they worked great- I never used them though got TOO hot...I just turn on the heater and wait for it..they do help though if you have lower back probelms =)

Wonder why Acura didnt put them in the NSX when the Legend seats are VERY similar..

Daniele,

Well first off (as you mentioned

) winter in SD ?? I am on my third snowfall out here is the east. It is 22 degrees outside as we speak, and this will add up to a snowfall total of about 3' in my area so far this winter season, and it is very early for us.

My NSX is covered and "plugged in" for the next few months, best I can tell!!

Anyway, I was motivated to look into this for another car and if you go on the internet and do a search of "car seat heaters" you should get a few hits. Most suppliers are not keen on selling you the "kit", since they really do not put them in kit form, but refer you to an installer. I did not pursue it further, and never got prices.

A little "surfing" will give you a good idea of what is out there.

HTH,

I didn't know they made an NSX convertible. Can you post pics of it?

Sorry, I did write convertible, but what I was referring to was the targa top, I have an NSX-T.

For those who might not be familiar with the NSX-Ts: In 1995 a removable targa top version of the NSX was introduced and called the NSX-T, and the standard version discontinued. Starting in 1996 you could special order the old style NSX, but I can't imagine that many were ever made. For all practical purposes a 1995+ NSX is pretty much guaranteed to be an NSX-T.

The reason I want the seat heaters is so I can keep the top off in the cold harsh San Diego winter

I have shoveled snow most of this day.(14-16")San Diego sounds like heaven.

C'mon, you don't need heated seats in San Diego! Not even in the winter! I think it got up to 86 degrees today!

I drive with the top off too. Just roll up the windows, and turn the heater on if you really need to.

It's a perfect day to drive with the top off today.

Not to be a smart alac or anything but I would imagine that everybody on this board is pretty familiar with the different versions the cars have come in.

Don't taunt me, I'm actually in Virginia for the week visiting family and driving my mom's old Subaru station wagon (sort of an anti-NSX, should the two cars ever touch there would be an explosion equal in energy to the combined mass of the two vehicles). I think it's about a billion degrees below zero outside, though my family claims I'm exaggerating.

Yeah, the days in San Diego are nice, but don't you get cold at night? Inevitably I get out of work in the evening, go to my car, and think "Dang, I don't want to put the top on but it's a little chilly". Then my fellow coworker, who always parks his M Roadster next to me, jumps into his car, hits his seat heater, laughs at me, and drives away.

I did find a few kits on the net. Installing them looks fairly straight forward, though it may be rough pulling the leather off the seats (or it may be easy, no way to know until I try I guess). With any luck I should get to this in February. When I do I'll post the results here.

Do a search on those who have modified their seats to give more head room. I read in the DIY/FAQ section on how to remove the seats and it seems relatively easy/straight forward. I would think that the installation of the heated seats should be easy from the underside of the seat (once the seat is removed)... Good luck and post your results when you get it installed....
