Heads-up: Track Day at Milwaukee Mile! July 2.

SpeedTrialUSA is proud to announce the addition of The Milwaukee Mile Road Course to our 2005 schedule. Completion of the Infield Road Course has reopened the opportunity for enthusiasts to experience The Milwaukee Mile in a whole new way. After a 30-year hiatus, the 1.8 mile road course was re-paved at 36 feet wide with 10 exhilarating turns. Utilizing a portion of America’s most historic oval, the road course offers a unique driving experience.

We have an instructional road racing school for enthusiasts of all driving levels, with all makes and models of car, coming up Saturday, July 2 at The MILWAUKEE MILE on the infield road course in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since our events are aimed at all levels of drivers and cars, there is something for everybody. This is your chance to take your driving skills and your car to the limit while learning the basics of auto racing in a safe, fun, and controlled environment. SpeedTrialUSA is one of only a handful of organizations that have been invited to host events at the Mile. Here is your opportunity to experience one of America’s most historic tracks.

This event is $175 for the day if you preregister, add $25 the day of, and includes intstruction for all levels of driver and also your tech inspection. We will be running our groups in 20 minute sessions, so you will have a ton of track time! Arrive at the track at 7:00am, Drivers meeting at 8:30 am, first session begins at 9am.

Tom -- are you instructing at this event? I've instructed with them @ GMAN previously as well, and have an invite... looks like a fun infield layout (more technical than Gateway).

I'm looking at the overhead pic, and it might only have three braking zones? 1, 4, and 8? Well, MAYBE 10, depends on horsepower I suppose.

I don't know anyone that has been there before, nor have I seen in-car footage. Has anyone seen any, maybe from the PCA event last year?

They run great events at a variety of tracks from what I hear.

I am still debating whether to go, but I have tickets for Tom Petty/Black Crowes and my good friends are playing at Summerfest on 7/2 at 2:30 p.m.

I am a bit swamped right now, but I need to attend some schools in July (hopefully) and August-Oct.

I've heard the same, although, Ken seems hesitant.

Ah well, I'll be there. Maybe my car will even be ready.

The infield was closed for over 30 years and was repaved last year. The Porche Club ran a race there last year and Midwest Counsel was there this year. Other than that, very few people have driven the course. Just to give you some insight, speeds are, at best, 10% higher than GingerMan. The oval is very wide and very smooth with a lot of grip, but there is very little banking. This means that turns 8,9 and 10 have to be taken like they would on a convetional road course. Turn 1 is very tight and just leads you into two more turns, so it is a throw-away turn. Apex turn 3 late and follow the flow to the outside. Brake before and after turn 4. Turn 5 is very sharp, but is an open radius turn so you can build quite a bit of exit speed. Turns 6 and 7 are pretty fast and it takes some practice to hit them right, but once you do, you will make up time on cars that don't handle as well. Turn 8 is relatively sharp and a little bumpy, so speeds are only moderate. You will accelerate out of 8 thru 9 and then brake before 10. Throttle out and get ready for turn 1 again.

The track is a lot of fun.

Book over to Gingerman with Tom and I on Sept 12th. We plan on driving over Sunday late afternoon and staying over night to do the CGI school Monday.

PCA-Milwaukee did have an event there last year, but I didn't attend. I thought it was a bit pricey given the looks of the track and I wasn't crazy about having a concrete wall staring at me. I didn't get any feedback from anyone about how the day went. I think it may have rained.

Maybe I'm way off, but the overhead view doesn't look like much of a road course. It looks to me like a big oval, a windy road with no corners and a caurosel. I'd be curious to hear from someone who has driven the track.
