headlight problem

i installed hid's about 4 months ago and all was working great. i only have about 10hrs of use on them and last night the drivers side light went out. just for the heck of it, i tried the high beams to see if they worked. they came on momentarily, then the same side flickered and went off as well. seems coincidental, but can this be a sign of something other than a faulty bulb?

thanks,

james

Are they true HIDs with Ballast? Or just the superwhite bulbs? I had almost the same problem when I installed my HIDs my drivers side bulb went out after about 5 hours of use, but nothing was wrong with the hi beams.

To test if the ballast or the bulb is faulty, simply switch the ballast from the side giving you the problem, in your case the driver's side, to the passenger side. If the problem persists after switching you know its the ballast, which in most cases it is. Otherwise, do the same with the bulb. Hope this helps

It might be easier to just try switching the bulbs first to make sure it's not a bulb out. Most likely it is the ballast. I know McCulloch has had problems with their ballasts going out.

My guess is it's a problem with the switch or possibly the wiring. The HID low beams and the non-HID high beams would have no reason to both go out at the same time if it were just the bulb.

yes, they are true HIDs and they are mccullough (sp?) i thought it might be a bulb or ballast problem. but with the high beams going out nearly immediately after i turned them on, it made me think something else could be the culprit.
i will test the bulbs as suggested above and post my results. hope it's simple. i have to drive back into NYC on monday and don't want to deal with a faulty headlight!

well, i tested the ballasts and apparently that seems to be the culprit. it makes the buzzing noise sporatically and did the exact same thing when i switched it to the other side. i have not yet submitted the mcculloch registration, hope it is not too late.
