Heading to Hawaii

Going to Oahu and Maui for 10 days.

What should I do?

Never been there, buuut I know a guy that is pretty heavy in the import scene on the big island...I think. I don't know anything about Hawii's islands and too lazy to look now. So if you wanted to go that route and were even on the same island I could get you his info and you could go take pics of cars for us:biggrin:

Definitely go to Koalua Ranch on Oahu and go horseback riding. THey filmed part of Lost there. Also go swimming with the sharks in the North Shore - look up a company called Shark Encounters. I think they have a website.

A few years ago a Prime member who rented cottages or bungalows on Hawaii posted about his place & recommended giving him a try if you are going there. I searched & can't find the thread. Anyone have better luck or know who this is?

Don't know who that is, but I have a condo on Waikiki that I rent out during the summer for $950.00/week. PM me if interested.

Snorkeling, kayaking, swam with sea turtles when I was there
Downhill bike ride from the top of the volcano, get to watch the sun come up
Luau

Road to Hana get the CD its one of the best $20 I have spent. Go to the seven sacred pools

kkt, that was it! Nice job finding that. I still have the license plate bracket you sold me. Sitting in the garage so it doesn't ugly up the car. Which is also sitting in the garage. Spring is here, so I'll have to get insurance back on it soon. Thanks.

What's so good about the Road to Hana CD if you don't mind asking?

I thought about doing the downhill bike ride, but after several previous days of full packed activity, I couldn't get up that early to go do the event...

I love Maui though. Need to hit the other islands sometime...

Frank, I(we) will be vacationing in the Big Island of Hawaii this November the 19th through the 25th and will be stayed at the new Hilton Resort that they said should be finished by September....It would be cool if you can join us there.

Ktt, do you have any to do list for the Big Island?

Sounds awesome Nick!!

Are you using Hilton points or getting a great rate?

I have a ton of Marriott points that I might be able to use.

PS - would be tough to swing both NSXPO in Orlando in October and then Hawaii in November. But if I had to pick, I'd do Hawaii - my wife's been bugging me about going there again. :)

It was very informative, rather than make the drive wondering what you are looking at you learn about the history and points of interests that you might normally miss. It is also very well put together telling you when to start and stop based on the mile markers. If you are going to make the drive to Hana I would get the CD.

I (was offered) bought this promo package last year when stayed at Hilton Hawaiin Village in Oahu. It was too good of a deal that i couldn't resist but has to be used with in 15 months. May be you and your wife can join us there.....

I haven't been to Oahu in more than a decade because frankly, it's too crowded and too tourist anymore. My family is from the Big Island so I know that well but I do know a bit about Maui.

While on Maui, you have to make sure you eat at Mama's Fish House. It's on the way if you're doing the road to Hana but well worth the drive no matter where you are on the Island.

I prefer to stay in the Kihei part of Maui because it's less crowded and more laid back. Plus there's great beaches for long boarding, great areas to snorkel, and it's less fast paced. I don't golf but there are several very good golf courses on Maui that I'm told are worth looking into.

The bike ride down the volcano is really worth it. You'll freeze your okole (that's butt in Hawaiian) in at the beginning but the experience is hard to replicate anywhere in the world. Don't pass on it just because you have to be up so early in the AM. Seriously.

Other than that... relax... snorkel in turtle town... get some good eats and enjoy your trip.

Aloha all,
Tom from Maui here. Mahalos to those who gave me the plug for my B&B and cottage rental and more recently we added a 2 bedroom condo to our accommodation offerings. Check out our webiste at www.maui.net/~tcroly

Hawaii is always a great place to visit and each island has something unique and special about it. However I do agree with Da Hapa that the island of Oahu, and specifially the Waikiki Beach area is too crowded and touristy for my taste. 10 days on Oahu would be way too much for me. The Big Island (Hawaii) has the feel of the country, with its vast wide open spaces and three huge mountain peaks. You can see moltent lava flowing and enjoy some wonderful snorkeling and scuba diving there. Kauai is the most scenic of the islands with flowers growing everywhere, but it is very small and can be seen completely in 3 to 5 days. Those of us who know Maui say "Maui no ka oi" which means "Maui is the Best" Maui offers a bit of everything. On the dry side of the island, where I live, the beaches and the snorkeling are wonderful. On the rainforest side, the raod to Hana beckons with big surf beaches, waterfalls and to die for ocean vistas. Up country is cooler and has a country autmosphere, and the summit of Mt Haleakala is absolutely stunning in its natural beauty. Maui has something for everybody and I am blessed to call it home.

If anyone has any spcific questions about Maui or Hawaii in general I will be happy to reply to any messages sent to [email protected].

I had to sell my NSX 4 years ago to make my dream of living on Maui come true. But as it happens, I am going out today to look at a '91 silver NSX that is for sale. a friend of mine once owned this car. I would love to again have an NSX in my garage!

Hey Tom -

Howzit. Good luck with the NSX. I know there are several NSX owners in Hawaii (seems most of the are of course on Oahu) but I've never seen one in all my visits.

And I wanted to note... to anyone interested... I don't know Tom and I have nothing to gain from anyone staying with him. But... his rentals are located in areas that I would consider very desirable. The new property appears to be located across from KamII. My wife learned to surf at Kam II, I think, on our honeymoon!
