The most sad thing happened last night...

My buddy and I were cruising down the street late in the evening last night when a Honda Civic pulled up next to us matching our speed. Apparently he took
his eyes off the road to check out the NSX a few times and while I made a left turn at a traffic light, he rear ended a white mustang stopped at the red traffic light. My buddy in the left seat saw the whole thing, while I was just driving and eating some food from Jack in the Box. Next thing I know, I hear the screeching of the Civic's locked up brakes, and see him plow into the stationary mustang as we make our left turn. Sad, Sad, Sad.

Although I cannot say that my X caused an accident, my previous car, a 2000 S2000, did. Just after I took delivery of my shiny new S2K, in Oct. of 1999, it was the cause of an accident. I was stopped at an intersectionTurning cross-traffic was bunching up and a gentleman was eyeballing my car. The lady ahead of him had to stop short, because of traffic, and he hit her.

Since I saw the whole thing, I pulled over and made myself available to the police when they arrived.

Try 4 accidents, 4, and NONE, None of them were my fault. My insurance rate is so good right now because my insurant companies didn't have to pay a dime, but I gotta figure out a way for people to stop hitting me.

My first NSX caused one hilarious accident (thankfully, no one was hurt). It was morning rush hour in Hong Kong (some of you can probably imagine what that's like) and I was bunched up with a whole slew of other cars trying to get inside the Cross Harbour Tunnel. It was an autumn day, and the weather was quite pleasant, so I opted to just open the windows and leave the A/C off. This couple in an Acura Vigor (the TL's predecessor) also had their windows rolled down and had pulled up alongside my car and was getting closer and closer as we approached the bottle necked entrance to the tunnel. I noticed the driver was more concerned about checking out my AVS wheels than on what was in front of him, and actually heard his wife nagging him to pay attention to the road. Unfortunately, the driver ignored his wife's advice and ended up rear-ending the taxi in front of him. It was just a very minor accident, but it was hilarious because I could just imagine the wife screaming at her husband afterwards and saying, "SEE??? I told you so!!"

:D

I have not had someone have an accident while looking at my car but not because they haven't tried. It has been primarily young people looking at the car instead of paying attention. I have seen drivers cross to the wrong side of the wrong looking back over the shoulder after I've passed them going the other way. I've seen people go straight through intersections without looking because they were looking at the car. My wife's favorite part of the car is all the attention it gets. I just worry someone will get hurt as a result of not paying attention.

Ill never again complain about going across the Verrazano Narrows Bridge again with an ez-pass. That must be some tunnel ....is that 20 bucks each way or just once.

2 springs ago when ..me (nsx) and my buddy (porsche boxster) were driving single file.. when a car full of young guys and girls pulled up next to us...i looked over and saw the young males in the grand am all staring at us ...while the girls in the back seat were just talking to each other..

the traffic slowed down as we approached a red light...

there were cars already stopped ahead us for this light...

as i looked one more time at the car next to me i still noticed the the young males were ogling hard at us...when BAMMMM.. he rear ended a neon that had stopped in front of him....

My first real accident

It was the last day of school. I was in 11th grade and somehow convinced one of my female friends to come with me for some shopping. I always wanted her .... to come shopping with me so her sitting next to me did not help my concentration. The car was my pap's 2 year old chevy something, stick. To make a long story short, the gears were being shifted :o :o :o and all I remeber was hitting a UPS truck HARD! She ran away and I got stuck with a situation actually two situations ;) . That summer I worked hard for 7 weeks to pay for the repairs and the girl ... we never finished our relationship:mad: ;) I guess I learned the lesson. From then on I never .... drove stick again;) However, I have had gears shifted once or twice since then :p :p :p

EK4> You're quite right, the NSX has become increasingly rare in these parts. The first one I bought (the one that caused the accident) was an official import, but the second one (the one I drive now) is a parallel import (grey market, for our US friends). I had such a hard time finding this car locally the second time around, and Acura no longer imports this model officially to Hong Kong. So many people just don't know what they're missing out on. The car continues to be one of the best engineered, most reliable, and handsomely understated sports cars in the world, even after all this time. There I go again, waxing lyrical about an inanimate object... :D

Well being a track-rat, I tend to late brake even for stop signs :D

Well one day after work I was heading down the side street to the stop sign the same way as I always did and hit the brakes late (as always.....I have 13" rotors w/ 4 piston cal.) A guy going down the main drag assumed I was going to just pull out in front of him because of how late I began slowing down. He locked his brakes up. I stopped legally at the stop sign. He stared at me cursing and honking his horn. Well when he locked his brakes up, the car behind him plowed right into him!! I knew I was legally NOT at fault, since I was not speeding or skidded the tires, but I know how cops can be, so I put it in reverse and went out the other way from work!!

Funny incident

Not in my X, but in my SC Integra I opened up the throttle and this kid who was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk looked behind him (towards me), only to look back forward to a "NO PARKING" pole in his face. I passed by at that point and looked in my rearview mirror in time to see him fly right over his handle-bars. He landed in the grass, thankfully.

One day I was driving down a local road in my '91 NSX when a GLH wagon pulled up behind me and started tailgating me. I was going about 5 mph over the posted speed limit, but I sped up a little to try and get him to back off. He stayed right on my bumper so I turned right onto a street that had two lanes and then slowed down so he would pass me, he still stayed right on my tail. I then sped up until I turned onto the on ramp to I75 at 70mph, I had taken that particular ramp before at 75mph and I didn't have any problem.

Well he didn't even start to turn, locked up his brakes and plowed right into the 25mph sign. I continued onto the expressway and left him there to explain his situation to the police.

This was about 10 years ago and I believe now I would of just pulled over and let him go by, but I still believe a jerk got what he deserved.

Had a guy next to me on a busy street going around 55mph with one hand on the wheel and the other taking pictures of my X with his cell phone camera. I can't believe he didn't hit someone!

An Opposite Version

Well being a track-rat, I tend to late brake even for stop signs. Well when he locked his brakes up, the car behind him plowed right into him.

Approaching a light-controlled intersection with a car behind me and the light turns from green to yellow. Car behind assumes I plan to run the yellow but has to brake a bit harder when he/she sees that I plan on stopping. So they stop. But before it turns red, I goose it and make it through the intersection. Being pissed off at me in the first place because that driver had to stop when they did not want to, he/she floors it to try to clear the intersection and tee-bones a car legally entering the intersection from a perpendicular direction. Because I saw this in my rear-view mirror and because I technically did nothing wrong, I pull over and make myself available as a material witness when the cops come. While filling out all the paperwork, I casually stroll over to the driver that was behind me and ask, "Now, had you waited at the red light for a mere five minutes for it to turn green, you would not be in this mess, would you? So instead of being delayed by five minutes you are now delayed by an hour.....and you have to pay for two repair bills."

Priceless.

One evening when I was driving to dinner from work, I was driving on a nice twisty road through a business park. On weekends, it is a great place for some "spirited" driving, but since a lot of cars try to turn on to the road at the end of a business day, I was taking it easy. These 2 motorcycles come flying by me, and one of them cuts right in front of me. He was obviously spending more time looking in his mirror than on the road in front of him because he kept drifting left in the lane. He finally ran out of road and hit the curb (it was a divided road). I'll never forget the sight of his bike flipping across the street, the parts flying off of it, or the rider sliding across the pavement. Fortunately, the light at the bottom of the hill was red - there was no oncoming traffic at the time, and the rider got right up after he stopped sliding.

It always amazes me how stupid drivers get around the NSX.

Holy cow Steve. I went and read that post it is truly amazing that you survived the first crash, nevertheless the other's also.

I'm not sure my NSX has caused any accidents, but it has given a few prior girlfriends an accident or two!

I am surprised about that first one too. I feel lucky to be alive. My passenger need two surgeries on his shoulder six months following the accident. While being ejected from the car it tore his arm out of socket at the shoulder and damaged his rotator cuff. This happen when I was 18 years old and stupid.
