Looking out our windows, you would never know that track season is almost upon us. But it is and it is time to start thinking about how we are going to have tons of fun in our cars this summer!

There are so many ways to enjoy NSX ownership, but there is only one that takes advantage of what our cars were made for: performance driving.

We must all "take it to the track" as the limits in our cars cannot possibly be met, in a safe manner, on the street.

Unless you have taken your car on the track previously, you really do not know what your NSX is capable of. You believe that it is a great car? Take it on a track and you will be amazed at what it will do. Until you experience these cars on a track, you are missing out on just how tremendous they are.

They're very, very special and no where are they more special than on a track. You can experience it for yourself if you attend a drivers education event where experienced driving instructors (in some cases optional for advanced drivers) will make sure that you finish the day with a better understanding how to get more out of your car than when you started. Importantly, they will also better enable you to understand the things that you do not want to do (take fashion tips from Stu often comes up) and why.

There is no shortage of eduction days to choose from, but one in particular is an excellent way to be introduced to higher performance driving than the others: The Hanson International Advanced Driving School. This is NOT AN NSX CLUB OF CANADA EVENT, but we believe that for those interested in "track days", whether or not you are a seasoned vetran looking for the best way to start a new season, or a novice who has never been to a driving school before, that this is the best one to start with. We are hoping to have a strong representation of NSX's and NSX owners out at this. While not an "official" NSX Club event, we are focusing upon the Hanson School as being the first gathering of Club members at a high performance driving event. Again, this event is not being run by the "Club" nor is this a "Club" event. This is a Hanson School that "Club" members are planning to attend en masse. I have spent a time on this track in my NSX as well as in F2000 cars. Having departed this track frequently (in the wet in F2000 cars), I can tell you that as I spin off, backwards, into the grass at 100kph with no idea where Im headed, Im not worried on this track. This track is all about making sure that when drivers make mistakes, they do so at a reasonable speed (sub 110kph in our cars) and they have tons of run off room. This is as safe as tracks get.

The Hanson's have been running this school for many years and have an outstanding reputation for high quality, safe and very productive events. I have attended this school before and it is excellent for our purposes. Derek Hanson has been the head instructor for Ferrari, Porsche, SAAB, and many other I am probably unaware of.

Many of us are going to attend this event (myself, Stu, Daria, Rick and Sean). It makes an ideal first gathering of our members at a drivers school.

The school specifics are:
Date: April 6th
Location: Mosports Driver Development Track (this is not the grand prix track).
Cost: $250+GST for the day (lunch provided).

I have attached the registration form as well as the liability waiver, but the information package is too large to attach. Email me for it if you want or you can contact:

Wow, sounds fantastic!

Barring anything unforseen with getting my car out of storage that week, expect me there!

John

Additional points:

1) I have GREAT fashion sense!
2) Although the top speeds on this track are low it will SEEM fast and your sphyncter muscles WILL confirm it!
3) there is VERY LITTLE wear on your tires or brakes on a day like this - you could do this every weekend all summer and not need new tires!
4) I have a few helmets that can be shared around - but any motorcycle helmet will do!

Im sending my registration in today!

WHO ELSE IS COMING TO THIS?

Come make the first NSX trackside gathering a success!

Stu
Rick
Mike
David
Daria
Omar
?

i am interested!!!
and is there a course that we could drive the F2000 cars?

The F2000's run on the same track - but thats called the bridgestone school.

The whole idea of this is that it is an awesome opportunity to see what your NSX can do without worrying about crashing or losing your license.

Yeah Stu - you should bring yours, for once, and leave the pink car at home.

my red, white and black Porsche lives at mosport now:biggrin: - the only pink car around is the one you think of when you're going blind!

I'll have both cars there since I'll drive the NSX out and pick up the Porsche:smile: .

I'm tentatively in (weather permitting).

I'd say I'm in for sure, but I've signed up for 3 track days at Mosport/Shannonville in early April over the last few years and been snowed out, in which case I don't go.

Dave do you know if this event is rain or shine?

Its on rain or shine - rain is better for the DDT, snow is the BEST! Since there's lots of run-off and low(er) speeds, its great to get teh car sidways and get the experience in recovering it - or not.

There's no other track where you can learn this as well - and you're better to learn it than to wait until you're at full throttle in Turn 2 @ Mosport and you realise you're not going to make the exit right!

Turn 2 at Mosport isn't my problem.
Turn 3 is. After my exit speed from 2 steadily increases all day, I blow through my braking zone and try to steer and brake at the same time for 3.

there's something not right about that is there?

Ask Peter Mills. He was in the car beside me that day!

Actually, thats because you're trying to do the school line, which involves coming out to the left WAY too far, what you want to do is be 1.5 car WIDTHS from the inside and threashold brake in a straight line and then turn-in.

You'll find the car takes the corner (which is an decreasing radius turn) way easier without "hopping" as you do when you take it wide and end up battling understeer like crazy - trust me, I shaved seconds by doing it "right" vs. "school" (Thats why I like the Hansons - they believe that the School line isn't safer, RIGHT and in control is safer)

That's interesting Stu, I'll try that, I'll ride copilot with you sometime and you can show me. thanks!

DO NOT GET IN THE PINK CAR!!!

But Stu, for once, is correct. During the later half of 3, the road also gets wider, so you can push it way more through there than you think.

Im powering my way through that corner. It is an amazing corner in an NSX because you can hammer the gas AND turn. There is also a tiny bank ;)

Watch here (I can even cut it tighter on 3 I think)

Nice Work. My line through 3 isn't much different actually. It's just on one day in particular my exit speed through 2 went up significantly from one lap to the next when I was learning the track's line. As a result I was carrying 20kph more through 2, blew by my braking point, started to turn into 3 with way too much speed, tried to slow things down and then....

Spin-O-rama!

Bah! I'm out!

Just got off the phone with my storage facility and there's not way in hell I'll be able to get my NSX out that week!

YOU BUNCH OF PUSSIES!!!!!!

Why are there only THREE NSXers going so far?
Confirmed are: Dave, Me, and Sean.

C'mon Rick, where's all that go-kart attitude now?

Mikey, I made special arrangements, you can drive Derek's car, we'll put you in different groups so you can share!

Zak, lets see what you can do!

Bram, you work for Bell, its a HOLIDAY! (like everyday)

Arshad, you aren't entitled to an excuse!

NSX-R GT - (whoever you are,) won't you be embarassed to show up at the first meet and have to say you're too chicken to register?

Omar, afraid you've got too much HP? Bring a different car, (But don't bring your Lady, if you want to not get beat!)

C'Mon guys its $250 and you'll learn how to really drive your car!!!

I still hold that you haven't driven an NSX until you have driven it on a track.

As much as your cars impress you already, a little seat time at the track will open your eyes to a whole other level of performance.

It will change your life and after one day the modifications you make to your driving techniques will be like adding 50hp to your car.

Sorry guys, I'm out of the Country from April 4th returning on the 16th.

Enjoy.....Bram

These lame excuses! Bram, are you THAT afraid? C'mon, reschedule your trip!

(Next thing Rick is gonna say that he HAS to fly you!)

Stu - I think that we are having trouble getting this group of pansies out because there is a competing parking lot meet. They're going to discuss what great cars they have as they sip on double doubles!

Intead of packing water and track side paraphenalia, they're packing dust mits!

Part of the problem is at Tim Hortons, when you show off your Supercharger, Brembos and cool looking wheels you feel like a race car driver, and you and everyone else can believe the BS about how fast you can go and how well you can handle.

If you come to track the people will know what you really can or can't do!

Why risk your carefully constructed fantasy world crumbling?
