Tonight on SPEED, coverage of the WRC Ralleye Monte Carlo, the first big event of the global motorsports season! Next week, the Grand Am Rolex 24hr, then Daytona 500... etc, etc... The 2005 Season is on!

Caveat: the Paris/Dakar Rally (2 weeks ago) should not be overlooked, but it's not part of a multi-race season long championship...

Sorry Mark:
24 hr at Daytona is February 5-6, which is in two weeks. Stop trying to rush the auto racing season...enjoy Speed's snowmobile races.:)

I'm psyched to watch some real road racing! Can't wait to watch the jgtc as well as the speed challenge. The Dakar is an amazing test of man and machine.Sadly this year I heard KTM pulled out after the death of thier star Italian rider :frown: Anyone know the circumstances behind his death?

As per AutoWeek
Jose Perez died four days after accident from abdominal injury incurred in stage 7.
Fabrizio Meoni died from heart attack resulting from accident on stage 11.

OK, OK, I was a little overenthusiastic on the calendar... it's a good thing, 'cause we have a couple of Grand Am teams testing at the Chin Motorsports event at Roebling Road (Savannah) this weekend...

More Serious: :frown:
Jose Perez died four days after accident from abdominal injury incurred in stage 7.
Fabrizio Meoni died from heart attack resulting from accident on stage 11.
(his heart attack was precipitated by injuries from a crash; not naturally)
With the end of the off season, the inherent risks of motorsports become immediately apparent... Meoni was one of the all-time heroes of endurance riding...

Let's be careful out there! (I'm preaching to myself! )
