Gyrating/shivering Steering Wheel

I have an AT '95 NSX with 50,000km mileage.

I have a probelm of the Steering Wheel gyrating , like shivering profusely very often when I start to pick up speed from 70 - 100 km/h (45 - 60 mph). Beyoind that speed, the shivering stops. The shivering is so greta at times that it brings my hands with it. It happens very often and I am really depressed about this problem when driving..

Can anyone suppport with Help / Advice as to how I can solve this ? Is something in the Steering Wheel worn out, or is it the tires ?

My tires are new and DUNLOP Sp-9000 (18"/19").

Appreciate if anyone with similar experience or advice could generously Help.

THANX.

I'm not a fan of Dunlop tires but I would suspect them first. Since everything was okay until you put them on, it has to be with the tires and possibly their balance. Have the shop check the balance and if it takes more than 1 1/2 ounces of weight in any one spot, then have them break the tire down, rotate it 180 degrees and then try to balance them again. My guess is either the balance, out of round, or mounted on the rim so they are no longer round. Give that a try.

Yes, I guess it's true this wasn't so obvious when on stock tires. It's so depressing after installing them. But, I have them aligned earlier a month ago, all 4 are supposed to be aligned. On the balance, they said it was ok too. How do you mean 'break the tire' down ? So, I should remove the DUNLOPS and do the balance again ? Reinstall them ?

If you know another NSX owner in the area, or if you have a second set of wheels and tires, switch the wheels and tires on your car with a set that is known to drive okay. If the problem goes away, then it is associated with the wheels and tires (probably the balancing). If the problem is still there, then it is something on your car (probably in the suspension, CT joints, wheel bearings, etc).

thanx nsxtasy,

i'll try to start in that direction, BTW which set of 18/19 tires do you guys recom ? I've never heard anyone saying anythign good about DUNLOP. i think i made a bad choice. But I rather the tire's causing the gyration, and not my car's joints that's the problem cause I donno how much suspension , CT, CV joints problems might cost me around here. I just spent a lot on TEIN RA susp and these DUNLOPS, and now have to repair couple other smaller parts. We are not known to have too many honest mechanics around here.

Any advice will help.

I would check the wheel/tire balance again. High Speed Spin Balance is required. This sounds like wheels out of balance to me:).

Larry, tkx for the tip. Will try and see if i can get High Speed Spin balancing this weekend.
