It's a litttle better today but still numb. Wierd.
wierd, wired or weird?
i may know what's up with that. this summer i bought a fretlight guitar to help me learn to play guitar. it worked pretty well, too... despite the snickers (no, not candy bars ) from some prime members and friends of mine who already played guitar (both of them are long time members of bands) before long, i was up to speed on basic "classic rock" chords enough to put the fretlight aside and begin actually playing the strat i'd had for 10 years.
i built a nice "guitar practice" playlist on my ipod, found "chordie.com" online for the chords / lyrics to my guitar practice playlist and began playing up to 3 hrs a day.
i got to the point where i could probably play for drunks in a bar (as long as the rest of the band would "cover" for me
but then my left hand (fret-hand) began to tingle a bit from time to time. then they tingled almost all the time. then my left arm began to tingle a bit, then all the time... then it felt like i'd licked my fingers and stuck them in the light socket - my arm was constantly BUZZING and my left hand was numb most of the time.
damn - i'm dying!
went to my family doc and she diagnosed me as probably having a pinched nerve, so gave me a light dose of cortisone tabs and told me to get an xray. the cortisone kicked in the next day and by the time i'd finished the 5 day treatment, i was pretty much back to normal.
uh oh.
so then the doc says get an mri.
i get the mri and the doc says "gotta see an orthopedic spinal surgeon"
uh oh, this isn't looking good.
last week i see the orthopod, who views the xray and mri results and says, "no big shake. you've got some swelling around your vertebrae and some pinching of a few nerves." gives me a prescription for naproxyn (anti inflammatory), says "take these for 6 weeks, do these neck exercises and you'll be fine. come back in 6 weeks and if the buzzing / numbness is still there, i'll give you a shot of cortisone in a specific area and you should be fine."
buzzing / numbness was gone completely until i played for 2 hrs last night and i've got a bit of tingling back in my left hand again.
steve, i've watched you on prime for the past few years and recognize that we share a tendency toward excess on some things... ok, most things.
my suggestion would be to (1) see your doc, just in case (2) take some anti-inflammatory meds - advil, ibuprofren, etc(?) and (3) limit your time on guitar hero while you see what's up... may be related.
hope this helps.
rock on, dood.
