So I bought Guitar Hero and I have been thrashing the thing now for a couple of days, actually beat it on easy level quite easily. Anyways I am wondering if anyone else has played the game? The reason I ask is two of my finger tips are numb and have been numb for two days now. Has anyone else experienced this? It feels like frost bite. I am also wondering if it may be from clamping down my middle finger and ring finger with my thumb, then extending the pinky and the index finger and raising my hand in the air after finishing each song,

Seriously my finger tips are numb, anyone else have the same thing happen?

steveny - you might be ROCKING out a bit too HARD

i played ROCK BAND this week on the 360 with a handful of friends for hours... no finger numbness here yet

It's a litttle better today but still numb. Wierd.

wierd, wired or weird? :)

i may know what's up with that. this summer i bought a fretlight guitar to help me learn to play guitar. it worked pretty well, too... despite the snickers (no, not candy bars ) from some prime members and friends of mine who already played guitar (both of them are long time members of bands) before long, i was up to speed on basic "classic rock" chords enough to put the fretlight aside and begin actually playing the strat i'd had for 10 years.

i built a nice "guitar practice" playlist on my ipod, found "chordie.com" online for the chords / lyrics to my guitar practice playlist and began playing up to 3 hrs a day.

i got to the point where i could probably play for drunks in a bar (as long as the rest of the band would "cover" for me :)

but then my left hand (fret-hand) began to tingle a bit from time to time. then they tingled almost all the time. then my left arm began to tingle a bit, then all the time... then it felt like i'd licked my fingers and stuck them in the light socket - my arm was constantly BUZZING and my left hand was numb most of the time.

damn - i'm dying!

went to my family doc and she diagnosed me as probably having a pinched nerve, so gave me a light dose of cortisone tabs and told me to get an xray. the cortisone kicked in the next day and by the time i'd finished the 5 day treatment, i was pretty much back to normal.

uh oh.

so then the doc says get an mri.

i get the mri and the doc says "gotta see an orthopedic spinal surgeon"

uh oh, this isn't looking good.

last week i see the orthopod, who views the xray and mri results and says, "no big shake. you've got some swelling around your vertebrae and some pinching of a few nerves." gives me a prescription for naproxyn (anti inflammatory), says "take these for 6 weeks, do these neck exercises and you'll be fine. come back in 6 weeks and if the buzzing / numbness is still there, i'll give you a shot of cortisone in a specific area and you should be fine."

buzzing / numbness was gone completely until i played for 2 hrs last night and i've got a bit of tingling back in my left hand again.

steve, i've watched you on prime for the past few years and recognize that we share a tendency toward excess on some things... ok, most things.

my suggestion would be to (1) see your doc, just in case (2) take some anti-inflammatory meds - advil, ibuprofren, etc(?) and (3) limit your time on guitar hero while you see what's up... may be related.

hope this helps.

rock on, dood.

(btw - #4 is have your new f-car shipped to my place :)

Funny thing is I took an advil and was able to keep playing. I have a 99% note hit on Even Flow, Pearl Jam. It is my left hand the finger tip of the middle finger. I took the guitar out to the garage today and shaved off some of the plastic that was sticking up with a grinder. I think when I was mashing the keys I was hitting the little peice of plastic sticking up between the buttons.

Now I want to learn how to play guitar for real.

I get the feeling too when I play, mostly in my hand and wrist tho. More like a carpal tunnel feel. Try playing it on "hard or "expert" your hand has to move faster and your fingers aren't on the keys as long so It may not hurt as much, but you'll just suck at the game.

Rock on dude.

My new favorite game on the Wii. Hardest part is getting the Wii away from my kids! Seriously cool game. My folks bought Rock Band for the 360 at their house so I will have to check it out and compare.

OK - spent some time checking out Rock Band for the 360. Here are some of my observations...

1) The drums are awesome on Rock Band! I was not expecting such quality and quantity! There are 4 electric drums with a stand and a bass pedal. The drum feel is on par with pretty nice electric drum pads and it doesn't feel as "toy like" as any of the guitars. Considering the price is only $60 bucks more it makes Rock Band seem like a bargain!

2) The Rock Band guitar is a Fender Strat "toy" versus a Gibson "toy". The Rock Band guitar has a separate set of buttons near the end of the neck for Eddie VanHalen solos. It is more gimmick then game play. I really like the wii guitar better because it is wireless and the guitar senses the position of the neck for cool power moves.

3) I like the songs better on GHIII better but that is personal preference. The songs are classic big hair monster rock songs and the charactors go along with it. The Rock Band songs were lesser known and the charactors look more realistic but less interesting (if that makes any sense).

4) I didn't play with the mic on Rock Band but no-body wanted to be the singer. The drums are really the instrument to play and it was really like playing the drums. The solos where really cool as well. I don't think you have to be a decent guitar player for GHIII but you really do have to be a decent drummer for Rock Band.

In the end - if I want to play guitar I would stick with GHIII for the wii. If I want to mix it up and play the drums - Rock Band rules.

Awesome. I think a buddy of mine got the rock band for x-mass I will have to check it out. I wish more songs could be downloaded for the GHIII on the Wii. I would love to play some more Scorpions or JP.

That game screws up you hand / arm over time. I bet there will be a few law suits in the next 1-3 years because of it. Also playing a real instrument is a lot harder then that game. I will say the drums are not 100% crap, they do not respond the very fast hits as well as no double bass :)

we had a blast rocking out to ROCK BAND this weekend over christmas. should have seen the setup:

1) singer
2) drummer
3) bass
4) guitar

haha.... it was a madhouse!

My brother got it for his Nintendo Wii and pretty much demolished it in one day, literally (about 28 hours with an overnight sleep). He was playing songs on expert having seen them for the first time.

OK, so I actually play guitar, I pick the darn thing up, and I'm awful...just awful and YES...I did have finger soreness despite the fact that I actually play guitar ( maybe because the buttons are just so numbingly flat? )

At any rate, battling people online is probably the greatest redeeming feature because after my brother beat it, he proceeded to destroy people thousands of miles away.

Watch out for IMONLY13YRSOLD!!!! Run while you still can!
Maybe I should post a youtube video of his awesomeness?

Yes post a video. My finger is getting better BTW.

I have both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III for 360 and have played on my friends PS3 version as well. I prefer the 360 over the PS3 since you can't patch PS3 yet to use the Guitar Hero guitar as your 2nd guitar with your Rock Band game. For 360 you can. This way you have 2 guitars (1 bass 1 electric) 1 drum set and a mic. However I do believe the Guitar Hero III guitar is a better quality guitar over the Rock Band one.

Either way, it's a must have game! Great for parties or when you have a few guests over.

Soooooo........I fly back to NY today and my finger is feeling a lot better. I get to my house and my BIL is here with his play station and he has Guitar Hero hooked up and he's rocking it. I pick up the guitar, this was 2 hours ago, there are a bunch of different songs on the play station version, well my finger is all numb again.

The buttons near the base of the neck are not that gimmicky. Since they are played only in "hammer-on" style, there are some really difficult solos in expert mode where you pretty much need to use your right hand on them and also be able to transition between the two modes.

The rock band guitar also senses the position of the guitar, and the ps3 one is wireless.
