GT-One Harness Bar --Help Needed

I have installed plenty of harness bars in the NSX, but do not know which one you have. Pics?? Instructions??:)

Hey Larry,

It is just a single polished aluminium bar that runs horizontally behind the seats and the bar is attached to some brackets that needs to be anchored to the side-panels (b-pillar) on both ends. It looks like I might have to do some drilling to mount the anchor backets maybe with some self drilling hex washer head screws (was not supplied) but I not a 100% sure  unfortunately, it didn't come with any instructions(my friend's mom might have lost it on her way back from Japan :). Anyway I can email you some pics if my description is not clear enough. Thanks!

To help out, here are some pics

First I would remove the eyelets and use it in the "wrap around" way the lower picture shows. Looks like you will have to modify the inner b-pillar liners, not a big deal.

But.... I have a real concern about the strength of the setup. The bar looks good. but it only has one 8mm, maybe 10mm mounting bolt per side to mount it to the car. This does not seem strong enough for track use, IMO.

HTH,
LarryB

I am not tracking the car, its mainly for the streets  What do you mean by modifying the inner b-piller liners? Do you have any specific instructions? Any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I see no distinction. Either way there are zero guarentees, and it needs to work properly both by design and installation in order to save your life.

The stock B-Pillar covers only have a small slit on them, which allows the OEM seat belt to thread through. Behind the B-Pillar panel is the tensioner for the seat belt. Attaching the tensioner in place is a bolt threaded to a nut secured to the chassis.

In most cases you'll need to modify your B-Pillar covers to accomodate the new hardware, usually just an additional 5/8" hole or small slit or the like... as the aftermarket harness bar attaches in tandum with the stock hardware and as-is there is no way to expose the mount without making a hole in each B-Pillar interior trim panel.

I also agree with Larry- forget the eyes, loop your harness around the bar.

Your point is well taken around safety issues. Although I can't do anything about the design of the bar at this point (that was something I should have thought about when I purchased it), I wanted to make sure that it is at least installed in the proper manner. I will continue to do some research and evaluate if I should proceed with the install given what I know. Otherwise, the bar will be in the "Parts For Sale" section pretty soon:biggrin:

If anyone has a bar with similar construction and design, please provide me with some feedback as well.

Anyway, thanks for your advice guys!!

just want to know where did u get the GT-One bar and for how much?
i love it, and is the one with eyebolt better or without is better?

I've worked on that bar... and now that i see a clearer picture of it, it now makes more sense...

At first I tried to put a mere slit in the b-pillar and make it fit but then what happens is that it doesn't go in far enough to fit w/ the b-pillar... (hindsight is 20/20)

when you mess with it, you'll notice that it fits perfectly with the b-pillars gone... now that I look at that picture what they did was cut the b-pillars open just enough to fit the mounting bracket (which is what I did) but then they put over a black garnish to cover up the hole...

have fun w/ that one.. personally i thought the comptech one was easier.

Thanks for the insight...I can now visualize how fits on the b-pillar. I plan to remove the b-pillar panel this weekend to do a fit-test. what did you use to mount the backets to the b-pillar (special bolts or screws)? I don;t think the mounting bolts came with the bar. Would a hex washer head self drilling type screw work?

well that kinda sucks that the mounting bolts didn't come w/ the bar... it sat behind the seatbelt mounting point if I'm not mistaken. I would highly advise getting the proper grade bolt and pitch that matches the OEM bolt but slightly longer...

All the bolts go in OEM holes... I don't think I understand what you want to do w/ the self drilling head screw.

I was under the impression that there were no oem holes or mounting locations on the b-pillar and that I had to create one by drilling into the chassis. That was my biggest concern. Anyway, I guess I will get a better idea after i mess around with it over the weekend. Thanks for all the help and advice so far. I might come back with questions if i run into any issues.

Al - If you are using this for a "show car" install and always use the OEM belts when you drive the car then it will be fine - otherwise you will have a problem if you crash the car and rely on it for saving your ass as it will deform in the middle, especially if you have 2 people attached to it. The OEM B pillar seatbelt shoulder belt attachment bolts will attach the bracket ends to the OEM shoulder belt mounting holes. I have one of these bars in the "nice idea but I don't think so" parts pile. JMO of course.
