Group Buy F1 Spec seats in Leathers

Hey guys,
I went to check out F1 Spec's showroom and had the pleasure to have met Ming in person. I tried out his seats and found them to be quite comfortable. I don't think you can beat the price for such decent products.

I wanted to buy a set of CF/Kevlar buckets but very much would prefer them wrapped in tan leather but they are not available. I will need to take the seats and get them reupholstered as soon as I get them. However, with the extra USA materials and labor, the resultant costs would be quite expensive.
Ming, being so helpful and eager to do business with our community, agreed that I can ask the group to get a group buy so he can have the manufacturer do a run of leather seats and yet keep the cost down. I very much like the idea and would start the thread. I need at least 10 sets of seats in the same color to get that going. Certainly more the better. At least, it would cost substantially lower than what I would have to pay if I buy two seats and pay again to have them wrapped. So I want to gauge the interest to see if it is feasible. I certainly want this feedback to be serious cause I would hate to make my final proposal/headcount to Ming only to find out that everyone is flaking out.

Argh, too bad they can't do red leather as part of the GB, otherwise I'd be in!

LOL depending on the price I'd be in for a GB on the non leather/red stitching versions.

I would be intersted in that. But I havent even seen a price mentioned for this group buy.

Figure the seat with the leather material, the price should be less than a hundred more per the base price.

Many of us who do not live within driving distance from Ming might be interested in the F1 spec seats; I am certainly one of them but I also believe it would be silly, very silly to buy a seat without trying it for size and for quality...etc. I contacted Ming many months ago and asked if in the whole of southern CA, he could direct me to a dealer or one of his customers to see if I could check the seat out before buying a couple. With all due repesct to Ming who has been very nice to speak to, every time I asked I was told to wait and later told there were no references. He did give me the name and address of one of his dealers in Chino, CA but when I called and got no answer, I inquired and found out they were no longer in business. I am still interested but, with many like me (I can think of at least 2 other NSX owners), I need to check the seat out before buying. Any idea ?

If the goal is to reduce manufacturing cost, it seems the seats would need to be the same model, the same shape; construction could be different, but the style would need to be the same. What model of F1 spec seat is this for?

Also, is it possible to nail down a price? I know recaro charges significantly more for the option of leather seat covers, and the quotes I received for custom tan leather seat covers for my sparco evo seats were between $600-1000 for the pair.

Also, is it possible to nail down a price? I know recaro charges significantly more for the option of leather seat covers, and the quotes I received for custom tan leather seat covers for my sparco evo seats were between $600-1000 for the pair.

We are asking the manufacturer to buy a batch of leather in the same colors and specifically put on different seats. We are going to come up with a number and see if they would do them in a reasonable price. I figure more or less $100 per seat plus the base seat. If they cannot do that, I will find some local upholsterer who can probably do them for $200 each seat. There is not much labor or material.

Update. Spoke to Ming. The prices will be about $100 more per seat. I am most interested in the Type 3 seat which I think resembles the Type R seat the most. Please contact Ming for the NSXPrime prices for various seats and $100 more for the leather if we can get 10 pairs in same style and colors. I will give this another week or 2, then I will be doing my own thing if there are not enough people.

I am 6 ft tall with 32" waist and hovering between 165 to 175 lbs depending on seasons. The Type 3 seat fits me very nicely for a racing seat and I think 34" waist is going to be the maximum. Afterall, true racers are supposed to be in good cardiovascular shape and all of them are slim. That's why all racing seats look similar to fit that kind of body shapes plus and minus a few pounds. I supposed, for the fat/obese, these seats are quite challenging to get in and out and certainly not very practically used in a daily driver.
Hopefully, this info might help some of you to decide.
