grinding and gear noise from tranny 5 speed

it would help if you put your location in that way if someone knows of a good transmission shop they can give it to you also when did your transmission start grinding was any work done to it lately when did you put the short gears in. also what year is your nsx.

Sounds hard to believe gear oil is coming out - are you sure this isn't engine oil? If your screen-name is accurate description of your car then I assume you have turbos. It is well reported that on FI engines at high speed, high G turns that you can get a dump of oil from the vent tubes. Check out this thread for more information on how to eliminate that.

Some of the older comptech 4.55 rp were assoc with some whine but no grind per se.What I would love for you to do is take a step back breath in and tell us about the car, like an introduction since you are new, that way you will be more likely to recieve help rather than having regulars asking a million painful questions whilst getting criptic incomplete answers ;)

On the top of the trans there is a small rubber tube that is a "breater" for the trans, check there. Also I think you need to check the fluid level in the trans. I know it is strange, but recently doing a trans service I removed the fill plug and got drenched with fluid. The previous tech WAY over filled it. It is a spill over fill. So when you fill it, you should let it drain off, until it stops.

Conversely, if it is low on fluid check your axle seals, and you may wish to remove the shift linkage gray plastic cover. The shift shafts each have a seal. The entire trans only has 5 seals, plus the o-ring for the oil filter screen in the trans, yes there is a filter since the trans does have its own oil pump system.
