I have been stuck on trial in Buffalo all week and need to be there another week so I took a break to escape that hellhole and fled the country to Canada for the weekend. Since I never leave home without my camera, here are some shots from the lastest, and extended, road trip. http://RSO.smugmug.com/gallery/817128/1/36426583

If the loser goes in the barrel my bet is you'll stay dry and see the ride from the outside.

I was using a Canon 20D with a Canon 28-300 L series lens on most except for the ultra wide shots where I used a Canon 16-35L. Most overhead shots were taken either from my hotel room or from Trylon Tower.

Once again some excellent compositions and great depth of vision
Good luck on another week in Flubbalo

Rob, you are still "DA MAN".
Very Nice Pics...
You know, by now, that I will be borrowing some.
Thanks for sharing.

Hey Bob,
Looks like the weather cleared up nicely for you for the weekend. You couldn't have asked for better days!!!
I'll be sure to be asking for one of the Niagara photos to add to my large format printouts on my office walls. I now have 48" wide glossy paper loaded in my printer so I can make a nice wall mural:smile:

For my weekend I got to take exciting pictures such as these.

Nice shots. I remember going to Niagra Falls with my parents over forty years ago. They had gone there on their Honeymoon in the Fifties. If I remember correctly, there was a very cool Wax Museum nearby that you should try to check out.
The Falls look very different now from what I remember, and from the postcards we had saved. How much erosion occurs each year? It would be interesting to know how far the falls have travelled upstream since I had been there so long ago.

Those pics brought back a bunch of my memory at Niagara since I finished my high school there.

From this site http://www.iaw.com/~falls/faq.html they claim erosion is currently under 1 foot per year.
--------------------
Accurate surveys of erosion of the Falls of Niagara began in 1842.

From 1842 to 1905, the average rate of erosion of the Horseshoe Falls was 1.16 meters (3.8 feet) per year.

From 1906 to 1927, this rate of erosion was reduced to .70 meters (2.3 feet) per year. This reduction coincided with the large quantity of water being diverted for hydro-electric generation.

Today, through increased water diversion and anti-erosion remedial steps, the rate of recession at the Horseshoe Falls has been reduced to a fraction of what it used to be. Today it is estimated that erosion of the Horseshoe Falls is less than one foot per year. In the future, through remedial efforts and further water diversion that the amount of erosion at the Horseshoe Falls has been projected to be reduced to approximately 1 foot every 10 years.

resurrect the thread for this adventure.
