Does anyone know what type of grease is used to fill the CV joints.
Is it a Honda based product, or is there an aftermarket equivalent/superior product.

Thanks.

just get the rebuild kit from acura it'll come with everything. I just order 4 of them from acura of augusta , It's only 19 bucks each.

It's some sort of "high pressure" grease. If you're gonna grease em, might as well replace the boots too. It should come as a kit with fasteners, boot, and grease.

I was wondering this as well. Also how much is used. My boots are leaking grease due to the grease being broken down from age/heat. The boots are fine and I want to avoid having to pull the axles and just slide the boots back and clean out all the old grease and put new grease in. I know its best to pull the axles and replace the boots as well, but I would like to leave that until next year when I will most likely upgrade my clutch too, that way I only have to pull everything apart once.

Doc - Are you replacing these because they are leaking or is it recommended maintenance (I have a 1991 with 117K miles and none of them leak)? Do you have to pull the axles or do the boots in the kits wrap around and glue?

only the inner passenger side is leaking. The boot still looks fine but i'm gonna replace it anyway. I'll have to take the axle out to change it.

Honda boots are not wrap around and glue. They use metal straps.

It's easy to see they use metal clamps to seal around the axles and joints. What I have heard is that they make boots that are split lengthways so you don't have to remove the axles. You simply cut the old ones off, wrap the new ones around the axles and glue the seam - then clamp them on. I've heard good and bad things about these type boots, but they would be very easy to replace.

Ron98 (who is STILL suspended for some reason) said there are quick boots that use screws instead of glue to be assembled. Maybe they're better?

pgilliam1, if it's not broken, don't work on it until it is!
When it's time for new boots they'll let you know by sending the signal in the form of grease all over the wheel that requires attention.
When it's time, get the REAL deal rebuild kits from Tim at Ray Laks Acura and they'll only be a few dollare each, like $15, four required.
DO them as soon as they split or you could be replacing the shafts instead of overhauling, a big monetary difference.
They are specific for inner and outer applications.

Cheers
