Ok, I just weighed my car... I took everything loose out of the car besides about 1-2 lb of random junk in the glove compartment and center storage (bolts, driving gloves, manuals, etc). I also left the jack wrench in the trunk.

Fuel level is 1/4 tank.
No engine cover
No spare tire

Here are the current mods on my '94

- TEIN Type-RA Suspension
- Dali mid-density anti-sway bar
- Dali 3rd gen harness bar (one set Sparco harnesses)
- MOMO Start racing seat (passenger side)
- Recaro SPG (driver's side)
- Wing's West side skirt
- Taitec lightweight center-exit exhaust
- Taitec Carbon-Kevlar Diffuser
- 17x7.5 18x9 Volk TE-37 wheels w/ Kumho 712
- MOMO racing steering wheel with SOS hub

Things still that I plan to do for weight reduction:
- headers
- cat bypass pipes
- lightweight clutch
- lightweight battery
- lighter tires
- remove interior (maybe)

Am I missing anything else easy to do?

So, that makes the car just about 3000lb flat with me in it.

My suggestions:

How about a lexan rear window?

Passenger side lightweight seat.

Fender wheel well liners.

Stoptech AeroRotors on the front.

That's it for now, but I'll think about it some more. Didn't Mike Duncan have some carbon fiber doors made?

I'm gonna get my license plate changed to that soon. hehe... pretty good eh GW?

Oh yeah, GTC-R1 is a super limited version of the NSX.

How streetable / comfortable do you want the car? How much do you want to spend?

Lexan engine hatch

Lexan betewen passenger compartment and engine

Remove trunk tool kit, carpet, light and any unnecessary wiring

Remove stereo, speakers/amps, wiring, antenna

Remove climate control

Remove ABS

Remove SRS

Remove center console, glove box, etc.

etc...

Add 84 pounds (3/4 tank) to find what it would weigh with a full tank of gas, subtract your own weight, and you will have the curb weight for this car. The difference between that and the 3010 pound curb weight of the stock car will tell you how much weight you have reduced through your mods.

man, ~ 12 gallons of fuel weighs 84 lbs?!
Anyways, why would I try to get my best lap times with a full tank of gas anyways.. 3000lbs is what I weighed my car with me inside it. I was able to look at the gauge while I sit inside the car.

I was under the impression that fuel was ~ 6.6lbs/gallon. So that is about right

I was using 6 lbs/gal. If it's 6.6, with 18.6 gallons, then 3/4 tank weighs 92 pounds.

The weight of the fuel is not insignificant. That's why you've got to take it into account in order to make an apples-to-apples comparison.

KenjiMR: Can you give us an update with your weight reduction. Did you get it down any further?

I'm also trying to shed some weight. I'm contemplating AC & stereo system removal. Anyone know how much can be saved by removing these?

ChopsJazz: You may be right!

When I bought the NSX I never would have guessed I would be autocrossing it, or any competitive event for that matter. One rule I follow when altering is that it can always be returned to stock. I like the car for what it is, I just need to temporarily trade off comfort for performance. When the season ends or I tire of it I'll put it back.

I considered getting another car entirely for the autoX, but in the end decided to stick with the X.
