I was able to get a priority pass for the Grand Opening of the Freedom Tower's Observation Deck today and although the lighting conditions were not perfect due to an 88 hazy degree day, the view was still spectacular..........

No open air views ? Do you have to shoot through glass ?

If you noticed, the architects meant the shape of the tower to be view from certain angles as "infinite road to the sky":

Last time i was there the barriers were still around though. I'll pay a visit again for sure :)

No open air so it is glass all around. I just wish people didn't lean against the glass so much since the oily hand prints can make it more difficult to shoot through it. There were spots that I used my microfiber to clean off to have a clear shot.

Thanks for the posting. It brings back memories. I'm originally from the New York
area and I remember going to see the original WTC shortly after it was finished.

My dad was a construction worker on the original twin towers and I remember him taking me down there when it was being built. I then would often go back to the observation decks for many years and when I worked nearby would sit out on the plaza and have my lunch. We could photograph it from our apartment in queens but my dad never took photos on 9/11 and I wish he could have lived to see the new tower in all its glory.

Amazing pictures Bob. Thank you.

I've flown/driven through NYC countless times but have never stopped to do touristy stuff. This Sunday the family and I are finally going to take half a day and check out a few places. The Freedom Tower is first on my list. While I'm online tonight buying tickets for the tower, I thought "Prime should have something about it." Sure enough, Bob has posted a nice video!

On 9/13 I had to drive my wife to JFK for her flight to Brazil. It was mass chaos but, amazingly, her flight made it out. I still remember that day driving her to the airport and the smoke was still rising in the distance....

You should go below ground as well into the 9/11 Memorial Museum
