Without an official source mentioned, it's hard to buy into any list as fact. 778 cars is in line with the confirmed statement of there being "more than 500 cars" in GT4. But upon investigation, I came across this site:

to be honest i dont know, i havent seen a lambo (there have been an additional 88 screenshots released) and i didnt see one.

the problem w/ Lambo is that they have yet (to my knowledge) autorized the GT makers to use the cars. The GT series uses only cars that have been licensed to it. I have heard that both Ferrari & Lamborghini have refused the licensing because they are afraid GT will show their cars in an unfavorable light. Maybe this has changed...

I think the situation is more likely a combination of cost and exclusivity of the licensing terms. Perhaps other developers/publishers hold exclusive agreements for developing games that feature Ferrari or Lambourghini road cars on specific gaming platforms. I know Electronic Arts has held exclusive rights for portraying Ferraris and Porsches in the past...and the Need for Speed series shows cars getting damaged, so I'd think that Gran Turismo 4 would definitely show their cars in a MORE favorable light.

There was a Lambourghini Diablo GT in the original Japanese release of Gran Turismo 3, but licensing conflicts caused them to remove it before the U.S. and European releases.

This certainly looks pretty damn favorable to me!
