folks,

because i was unable to take my 91+ctsc to shad for install, i solicited advice re local install candidates. several folks here, as well as shad, suggested foreign affair in santa clara.

i gave them a call and set a time to drop off the blower ("parts in boxes" after de-install by hilltop) for them to inventory the parts so they might order anything that was missing or needed to be "refreshed". dropped the parts off last week and planned on bringing the car in this week for the install. when i called to confirm the install dates, they sounded a little reluctant but sounded committed.

when i buzzed over on monday to talk with them face to face, i spoke with their mechanic (steve, i think) and he said (paraphrasing here), "look, i can do this, but it's a bunch of parts in boxes now and to tell you the truth, it's gonna take some work on my part to sort things out... it's different than getting the new kit in packages along w/instructions from comptech... you'd probably be better off taking it to shad because he lives with this stuff every day."

very refreshing to have that kind of honesty - they've got my business in the future!

Hal,

Just drop the X off at Shad's place this week and I will give you a ride back to Shad's place on the 23rd Driving Ambition open house to pick up your X.

wow, thanks very much for the great offer! (but) unfortunately, even if shad was able to shoehorn my car in that timeframe, i'm unable to make the trip this week to drop it off :(

with the recent changes in my schedule, i will make it to his open house :)

thanks again for the offer.

With such obvious willingness to steer a potential customer to the RIGHT direction in the event of just having wasted his precious time, their commitment and dedication to customer's satisfaction are simply second to none. I am totally consumed by such profound emotional impact. My tears are about to swamp the keyboard and wet my pants as I am typing this.
Thanks for the touching story.

steve,

oh, thank god i'm not the only one dealing with emotions on this

without going into specifics, it's pretty clear to me they could have billed me for time spent inventorying / reporting the condition of the parts, as well as identifying parts that would need to be refreshed / purchased due to their post-removal condition. likewise, it's also clear they could have kept the car and done the job as originally committed, but given the review / refresh process, they would have been within what i would consider normal parameters to bill me for much more than initially quoted (what appears to be) standard rate for the job.

all things considered, i'm very pleased they took the approach they did and don't - for a second - think they wasted any of my time.

btw, i ain't paying to see you wet your pants
